Abstract
Tidak ada orang yang berbicara dengan cara yang sama sepanjang waktu karena bahasa yang kita gunakan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari beragam. Variasi bahasa dapat dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor seperti hubungan peran dan batas geografis. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti tertarik untuk menganalisis variasi bahasa oleh anak muda di Jember berdasarkan hubungan peran dan batas geografis. Rumusan Masalah penelitian yang dipaparkan dalam penelitian ini adalah: (1) Bagaimana Hubungan Peran mempengaruhi Variasi Bahasa di kalangan anak muda di Jember? (2) Bagaimana batas-batas geografis mempengaruhi Variasi Bahasa di Jember? Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan memberikan penjelasan yang komprehensif. Data penelitian ini terdiri dari 14 kata yang dianalisis dari hasil penelitian sebelumnya yang berkaitan dengan dialek Jember. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan teori yang milik Wardhaugh (1986) dan Spolsky (1998). Analisis dibagi menjadi 7 distrik berdasarkan asal atau tempat tinggal masing-masaing anak muda di Jember. Hasil analisisnya adalah: 1) role-relationship: Penggunaan bahasa tergantung pada siapa dan bagaimana hubungan antara lawan bicara dan pembicara. Meskipun topik yang dibahas bervariasi, penggunaan suatu bahasa akan tetap bergantung pada siapa atau bagaimana peran-hubungan itu. Selanjutnya, 2) Setiap distrik memiliki kecenderungan penggunaan bahasa yang berbeda-beda yang dipengaruhi oleh batas geografis atau garis yang membatasi penggunaan bahasa di setiap distrik. Perbedaan leksikal dari hasil penelitian dianggap sebagai efek batas geografis yang memisahkan bahasa dan dialek. Sebagai kesimpulan, hubungan peran dan batas geografis adalah faktor yang paling mempengaruhi variasi bahasa oleh anak muda di Jember. Variasi bahasa melibatkan penggunaan bahasa Madura, Jawa, Indonesia, atau campuran dari tiga bahasa tersebut. Variasinya dianggap sebagai keunikan budaya Jember yang perlu dijaga dan dilestarikan.
English Abstract
No one speaks the same way all the time because language we use in our daily life is various. The language variation can be influenced by many factors such as Rolerelationship or geographical boundaries. In this study, the researcher is interested in analyzing the language variation by youngsters in Jember based on role-relationship and geographical boundaries. The research problems presented in this study are : (1) How does the Role-relationship affect the Language Variation among youngsters in Jember? (2) How does the Geographical boundaries affect the Language Variation in Jember? This study uses qualitative approach by providing a comprehensive description. The data consists of 14 words that were observed from the result from the previous studies relating to Jember dialect. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the theories that belongs to Wardhaugh (1986) and Spolsky (1998). The analysis were divided into 7 districts based on the origins of the youngsters. The results of the analysis are: 1) role-relationship: The language use depends on who and how the relationship is between the interlocutor and the speaker. Although the topics cover are different, the use of language will still depend on who or how the role-relationship is. Furthermore, 2) Each district has its own tendency of the language use that should be taken into consideration because of the geographical boundaries or line which borders the language use in each district. The lexical distinction by result is considered as the effect of geographical boundaries that separates the language and dialects. As for the conclusion, role-relationship and geographical boundaries are the most affecting factors that influences language variation by youngsters in Jember. The language variation involves the use of Madurese, Javanese, Indonesian, or mix of the three languages. The variation is considered as a cultural uniqueness of Jember that needs to be maintained and preserved.
