Abstract

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada pemecahan masalah siswa dalam kemampuan berbicara. Berdasarkan studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan di SMK Cor Jesu Malang, terutama di kelas Akomodasi X Hotel, peneliti mengetahui bahwa para siswa memiliki beberapa kesulitan dalam pengucapan, tata bahasa, kosa kata dan kepercayaan diri. Karena masalah-masalah tersebut, peneliti mengusulkan teknik permainan peran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dari mahasiswa akomodasi X Hotel di SMK Cor Jesu Malang. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas untuk mengatasi masalah siswa yang terkait dengan kemampuan berbicara. Melalui teknik bermain peran, para siswa dapat mengekspresikan ide, perasaan, dan pemikiran mereka dalam peran tertentu. Selain itu, beberapa instrumen juga digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mendukung pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dalam satu siklus. Instrumen-instrumen tersebut adalah daftar periksa observasi, wawancara, dan tes. Dari hasil penelitian ini, disimpulkan bahwa teknik bermain peran membantu siswa untuk mengatasi masalah berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Itu didukung oleh pencapaian kriteria kesuksesan. Peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa juga terlihat dari skor akhir dalam post-test, dalam siklus ini ditemukan bahwa 85% siswa dapat memberikan skor minimum standar. Ini berarti bahwa 17 siswa dari 20 siswa mendapat lebih dari 75 skor sebagai kriteria kesuksesan. Selanjutnya, teknik bermain peran bisa menjadi cara alternatif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa yang memiliki masalah kesamaan berbicara.

English Abstract

This research was focused on solving students’ problem in speaking ability. Based on the preliminary study that was conducted at SMK Cor Jesu Malang, especially in X Hotel Accommodation class, the researcher found out that the students had some difficulties in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and confidence. Due to those issues the researcher proposed role play technique to improve students’ speaking ability of X Hotel Accommodation students at SMK Cor Jesu Malang. This research used Classroom Action Research to cope with the students’ problems related to the speaking ability. Through role play technique, the students able to express their ideas, feelings, and thoughts in a particular role. Besides, some instruments were also used in this research to support the data collection which was conducted in one cycle. Those instruments were observation checklist, interview, and test. From the result of this research, it is concluded that role play technique helps the students to cope with the speaking problem in English. It was supported by the accomplishment of the criteria of success. The improvement of the students’ speaking ability also was seen from the final score in post-test, in this cycle it is found that 85% of the students could pass the standard minimum score. It means that 17 students from 20 students got more than 75 score as criteria of success. Furthermore, role play technique could be an alternative way to improve students’ speaking ability that has the similarity problems of speaking.
