Abstract
Novel adalah produk sastra yang terkadang mengandung aspek filosofis. Cinderella Cina dan Secret Dragon Society adalah sebuah novel yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2004 yang diberitahu tentang bagaimana CC sebagai karakter utama bertahan dalam situasi Perang Dunia II setelah dikeluarkan dari rumah oleh ayahnya. Dalam perjalanannya untuk bertahan, dia menemukan keberadaannya. Ini menjadi masalah penelitian. Untuk menjawab masalah di atas, peneliti mencoba menganalisis novel dengan menerapkan pendekatan eksistensialisme dari Jean Paul Sartre. Pendekatan ini memiliki beberapa pengertian yang menunjukkan bagaimana orang menemukan keberadaannya seperti kebebasan memilih, tanggung jawab, untuk menjadi orang lain, kesedihan, dan iman yang buruk. Setelah menganalisis dan menafsirkan data, hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa CC pertama memiliki kebebasan memilih. Itu adalah awal dari bagaimana dia sadar bahwa dia memiliki kebebasan untuk memilih sesuatu untuk hidupnya. Yang kedua adalah tanggung jawab. Beginilah cara CC bertanggung jawab atas pilihannya. Yang ketiga adalah untuk orang lain. Dalam proses ini CC menemukan identitasnya melalui persepsi orang lain. Yang keempat adalah penderitaan. Begitulah cara CC bertindak dan memilih setelah dia merasa cemas. Dan yang terakhir adalah iman yang buruk. Ini adalah bagaimana CC berbohong pada dirinya sendiri meskipun dia tahu yang sebenarnya.
English Abstract
Novel is a literary product that sometimes contains philosophical aspect. Chinese Cinderella and the Secret Dragon Society is a novel published in 2004 which told about how CC as the main character survived in the world war II situation after expelled from home by her father. On her way to survived, she found her existence. This became the problem of the study. In order to answer the problem above, the researcher tried to analyze the novel by applying existentialism approach from Jean Paul Sartre. This approach had some notions which show how people found his/her existence such as freedom of choice, responsibility, being for others, anguish, and bad faith. After analyzing and interpreting the data, the result shows that the first CC had freedom of choice; it was the beginning of how she was aware that she had a freedom to choose something for her life. The second is responsibility; this is how CC is responsible for her choices. The third was being for others; in this process CC found her identity through other’s perceptions. The fourth was anguish; it was how CC acted and chose after she felt anxious. And the last was bad faith; this was how CC lied to herself even though she knew the truth.
