Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis subek nol yang ditemukan dalam ucapan yang dihasilkan oleh Sherlock Holmes sebagai karakter utama dari seri televisi berjudul Sherlock: sebuah studi dalam warna pink. Ada dua masalah penelitian. Peneliti berfokus pada mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis subjek nol dengan menggunakan teori dari Radford (2009). Peneliti juga menganalisis struktur sintaksis klausa dan kalimat yang mengandung subyek nol dengan menggunakan diagram pohon dari Carnie (2001), Carnie (2006), Chomsky (1975, dikutip dalam Potsdam 2007, p. 113), dan Wang (2010), dan Wang (2010) . Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif karena penelitian ini menganalisis transkripsi sherlock: sebuah studi dalam serial televisi pink. Ada 96 klausa yang mengandung subjek nol di mana semua jenis subjek nol ditemukan dalam sumber data. Peneliti menemukan bahwa jenis subyek nol yang paling sering adalah subjek nol imperatif sedangkan jumlah penampilan terendah adalah subjek nol nonfinite. Peneliti juga menggambar diagram pohon untuk mewakili struktur sintaksis klausa subjek nol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa speaker kalimat subyek null imperatif memang menghilangkan kata ganti Anda sebagai subjek kalimat. Sementara itu, seperti halnya mata pelajaran nol terpotong, pembicara dari kalimat menghilangkan subjek kalimat yang diberi label sebagai spec karena spec digunakan untuk memberi label subjek ketika itu adalah subjek kalimat deklaratif. Selain itu, speaker dari kalimat-kalimat Null Null Nonfinite juga menghilangkan kata ganti subjek berlabel Pro yang mendahului klausa komplemen infinitive dari kalimat. Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa subjek nol terjadi dalam banyak bahasa, seperti bahasa Inggris. Namun, subjek null muncul karena speaker dan pendengar memiliki kemampuan untuk memahami subjek yang hilang. Dengan demikian, subjek nol tidak akan memimpin audiens dari serial televisi menjadi kesalahpahaman.
English Abstract
This study aims to analyze null subects found in the utterances produced by Sherlock Holmes as the main character of a television series entitled Sherlock: A Study in Pink. There are two problems of the study. The researcher focuses on identifying the types of null subjects by using the theory from Radford (2009). The researcher also analyzes the syntactic structure of the clauses and sentences which contain null subjects by using tree diagram from Carnie (2001), Carnie (2006), Chomsky (1975, cited in Potsdam 2007, p. 113), and Wang (2010). This study uses qualitative approach since the study analyzes dialogues transcription of Sherlock: A Study in Pink television series. There are 96 clauses which contain null subjects in which all types of null subject are found in the data source. The researcher found that the most frequent type of null subjects is imperative null subject while the lowest numbers of appearance is nonfinite null subject. The researcher also draws tree diagrams for representing the syntactic structure of null subject clauses. The results show that the speaker of imperative null subjects sentences indeed omits the pronoun you as the subject of the sentences. Meanwhile, as for the truncated null subjects, the speaker of the sentences omits the subject of the sentences which is labelled as Spec since Spec is used to label a subject when it is the subject of declarative sentences. In addition, the speaker of nonfinite null subect sentences also omits the subject pronoun labelled as PRO which precedes infinitive complement clause of the sentences. This study also shows that null subject occurs in many languages, such as English. However, null subjects emerge because both the speaker and the hearer have the ability to understand the missing subject. Thus, null subjects will not lead the audience of the television series into misconception.
