Abstract
Sebagai makhluk sosial, orang-orang butuh berinteraksi satu sama lain. Ketika interaksi berlangsung, beberapa konflik mungkin akan muncul. Konflik yang terjadi akan mempengaruhi dan mengubah perilaku orang-orang karena konflik bisa menyebabkan trauma dan kecemasan di kemudian hari. Di Pretty Little Liars, tokohtokoh utama berubah dikarenakan pengalaman buruk yang mereka hadapi dan kecemasan adalah hasilnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukan kecemasan tokoh-tokoh utama dan bagaimana mereka mengatasinya dengan menggunakan mekanisme pertahanan diri. Pretty Little Liars ditonton beberapa kali oleh penulis untuk mendapatkan data yang dibutuhkan. Bentuk datanya berupa transkrip percakapan dan cuplikan layar dari beberapa adegan. Kemudian data ditafsirkan oleh penulis dengan menggunakan teori psikoanalisis. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa tokoh-tokoh utama mengalami kecemasan setelah mereka menerima pesan dari “A”. Mereka mengalami kecemasan realistis ketika “A” meneror mereka secara sembunyisembunyi di kehidupan nyata. Hasil dari terror tersebut adalah kecemasan neurosis yang membuat mereka berpikir negatif dan takut di kemudian hari. Kecemasan moral juga terjadi karena mereka khawatir terhadap apa yang telah mereka lakukan di masa lampau. Kecemasan-kecemasan yang muncul tersebut mendorong mereka untuk melakukan mekanisme pertahanan diri seperti represi, proyeksi, dan rasionalisasi. Mekanisme pertahanan diri tersebut digunakan oleh tokoh-tokoh utama untuk mengurangi rasa cemas mereka.
English Abstract
As social being, people need to interact each other. When interaction occurs, some conflicts may appear. The conflict that occurs will influence and change people’s behavior because conflict can cause trauma and anxiety in the later day. In Pretty Little Liars, the main characters are changing because of bad experiences they face and anxiety is the result. This study aims to reveal main characters’ anxiety and how they cope it by using defense mechanisms. Psychoanalysis theory (anxiety and defense mechanisms are included) is used in this study to see characters’ behavior, especially when they feel threatened. Pretty Little Liars is watched several times by the writer to get the needed data. The form of the data are dialogue transcript and screenshot from some scenes. Then it is interpreted by using psychoanalysis theory. This study reveals that main characters experience anxiety after they receive a text from the “A”. They experience realistic anxiety whenever the “A” terrors them anonymously in real life. The result of that terror is neurotic anxiety that makes them think negatively and afraid in the later days. Moral anxiety also occurs because they worry about what they have did in the past. Those anxiety that appear lead them to do defense mechanisms such as repression, projection and rationalization. Those defense mechanisms are applied by main characters to reduce their anxious feeling.
