Abstract
English Day Program menciptakan lingkungan bahasa asing sebagai faktor utama dalam mempelajari bahasa asing dimana pelajar EFL (bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing) sangat jarang mendapatkannya khususnya di Indonesia. SMK Putra Indonesia telah menciptakan lingkungan bahasa asing melalui pelaksanaan English Day Program. Untuk itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengamati pelaksanaan English Day Program di SMK Putra Indonesia Malang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dalam bentuk studi kasus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mengobservasi program, wawancara, dan pengumpulan dokumen pendukung. Observasi dilakukan untuk mendapatkan gambaran aktivitas-aktivitas selama program berlangsung. Wawancara dilakukan untuk mengetahui pendapat peserta dalam program tersebut, sementara pengumpulan dokumen dilakukan untuk mencari perangkat dan program-program pendukung . English Day Program di SMK Putra Indonesia Malang dilaksanakan dengan baik, hal itu ditunjukkan dari hasil observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Program tersebut dibagi menjadi tiga, yaitu: persiapan program, pelaksanaan program, dan pasca pelaksanaan program. Terdapat dua program penunjang dan beberapa perengkat pendukung English day program, yaitu: English Speaking Test dan English Fun Gathering dan beberapa instrumen berupa contoh bacaan dalam bahasa Inggris Namun, keterbatasan figur yang mampu berbahsa Inggris dengann benar mejadi kendala yang serius. Selebihnya, pelaksanaan English Day Program memberikan dampak positif untuk kemampuan berbicara semua peserta. Diharapkan, hasil penelitian ini menyediakan infromasi yang berharga betapa pentingnya lingkungan bahasa asing dan sebagai bahan evaluasi SMK Putra Indonesia Malang terhadap pelaksanaan English Day Program.
English Abstract
English Day Program provides necessary factor in learning the target language while the opportunity is very limited for the EFL learners to find, especially in Indonesia. SMK Putra Indonesia Malang has created a target language environment trough “English Day Program” where all participants are required to speak in English that successfully produces students with good speaking ability. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the implementation of English day program in SMK Putra Indonesia Malang. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method in the form of case study. The data were taken trough observation, interview, and documentation. The observation was done to find sequent activities during the program. The interview was done to obtain the participants’ point of view towards the program, while the documentation was done to collect the supporting instruments of the program. English Day Program in SMK Putra Indonesia Malang was implemented very well, seen from the situatuion during the program that reflected the natural language environment. The program was divided into pre-program, program, and post program. There were two supporting programs and several instrument to support the implementation of “Engloish Day Program”, they are: English Speaking Test and English Fun Gathering program and several examples of text in English. Yet, the target language models were very limited. Furthermore, the implementation of English day program gave positive impacts for the participants’ speaking ability. Hopefully, the result of this study could be precious information about the important of the target language environment and one of the data to evaluate the implementation of English day program in SMK Putra Indonesia Malang.
