English Abstract
Besides functioning as a shelter to live in, house is indirect manifested cultural values. As an intermingling design process between physical functions and manifestation of cultural values on each element of its architecture, Rumah Adat Betawi is chosen as the object of the study. Consequently, Rumah Adat Betawi functioning as a medium of manifesting Betawi wisdom, was discussed. Allowing the researcher to get detailed information, the elements of architecture in Rumah Adat Betawi were scrutinized by the ethnography approach. Moreover, functionalism was used to apprehend the functions of each element. Additionally, this research applied architecture theory as a grand perspective in interpreting the collected data. All of them were needed to find (1) elements of architecture in Rumah Adat Betawi and (2) the underlying cultural values depicted in each of the elements of the house. The result of the research revealed that there were seven kinds of architecture in Rumah Adat Betawi that functioned as elements to support physical function of the house and medium to manifest Betawi local wisdom. The elements have important functions, specifically enabling people to live in harmony for years. However, conservation action plan was needed.
