RanaSafiraIlaD (2016) English Learning Strategies Used by an Outstanding Student of 11th grade at MAN Malang 1. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English becomes International language since most people have used English for communication, science, technology, and education. In Indonesia, almost all people want to learn English because they believe that English is important. Moreover, strategies in learning English process are aspects to make students or learners successful or not in their academic. Therefore, the student needs to know what the great strategies to ease the learning process. This research focuses on a student who studies on XI grade of Social class at MAN 1 Malang, about how this student has got some academic achievements. The aims of this study are to find out (1) what English learning strategies used by a student in the learning process., and (2) the factors which support the student in the learning process. This research applied qualitative reseach. The researcher collected the data by using the translated Semi-structured interview adapted from Dwita Laksmita (2015) and conducting observation. The results of the data was analyzed by using data and method triangulation. Based on the findings, the outstanding student applied two language learning strategies as proposed by Rubin (1981) with differrent frequency of usage. The researcher also gives some suggestions related to this topic. For the student, she could improve her learning strategies more by joining English competitions held by outsiders. For her parents, they should continously fully support the child in order to support more. For the next researchers, they can do deeper and closer research about English learning strategies used by an outstanding student.
