Abstract
Selama pendudukan di Jepang pasca perang dunia kedua, tentara Amerika Serikat membawa nilai-nilai Barat ke Jepang, sehingga orang-orang Jepang mengadaptasi hal-hal yang mereka dapatkan dari Amerika dan menerapkannya pada kehidupan sehari-hari. Kemudian di tahun 1960-an, Jepang diserang oleh British Invasion yang mempengaruhi penduduknya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosio-historis untuk menganalisa data yang didapat dari serial televisi animasi Kids on the Slope. Penulis menemukan bahwa Kids on the Slope mencakup dua gelombang westernisasi di Jepang pada pasca Perang Dunia II. Yang pertama adalah dari pendudukan Amerika Serikat di Jepang, dan yang kedua adalah dari British Invasion yang menyerang Jepang pada tahun 1960-an. Selama pendudukan, Amerika Serikat membawa nilai kebebasan beragama dan budaya populer seperti musik Jazz dan film selama era pendudukan. Namun, preferensi musik di Jepang berubah ketika British Invasion datang ke Jepang pada 1960an yang membuat musik Rock and Roll dan mode Inggris menjadi populer yang kemudian mempengaruhi pemuda Jepang. Hal ini mengakibatkan bangkitnya subkultur mod di Jepang. Namun, kebebasan beragama dan film Hollywood yang masuk ke Jepang dari pengaruh Amerika pada tahun 1950an tidak terpengaruh arus British Invasion pada tahun 1960an.
English Abstract
During the Occupation, The United States Army brought the western values to Japan, thus the Japanese adapted the values and applied it to their daily lives. Later in the early 1960s, Japan was ‘attacked’ by British Invasion which affected the people. This research used socio-historical approach in order to analyze the data from the television animation series Kids on the Slope. The researcher found that Kids on the Slope covers two waves of westernization in Japan in post-World War II era. The first one was from the occupation of the United States in Japan, and the second one was from the British Invasion that invaded Japan in the 1960s. During the occupation, The United States brought the value of religious freedom and popular culture such as Jazz music and the movies during the occupation era, thus the Japanese adapted it to their habitual life. However, the Japanese music preference changed when the British Invasion came in to Japan in the 1960s. The rock and roll music genre and the British fashion were popular and affected the Japanese youths, which caused the rise of mod subculture in Japan. However, the religious freedom and Hollywood films which got influenced from the United States in the 1950s did not affected by the wave of British Invasion in the 1960s.
