Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengucapan dan pengaruh bahasa ibu oleh siswa kelas pelafalan bahasa Inggris di kursus daffodil. Ada dua masalah studi, yaitu: (1) Bagaimana konsonan fricatif dan afrikat yang diucapkan oleh siswa kelas pelafalan bahasa Inggris di kursus daffodil. (2) Apa pengaruh bahasa ibu pada pengucapan fricative dan africates konsonan oleh siswa di kelas pengucapan bahasa Inggris di kursus daffodil. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Para peserta adalah 25 siswa kelas pelafalan bahasa Inggris di kursus daffodil. Ada 900 pelafalan yang diambil dari 36 kata yang dibagi menjadi posisi awal, menengah dan akhir. Penulis merekam pengucapan siswa. Kemudian, penulis menganalisis data dengan melihat perbedaan antara bahasa target dan pelafalan siswa dan pengaruh bahasa Indonesia untuk pelafalan mereka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fricatives dan afrikat Inggris diubah menjadi suara konsonan lainnya, oleh siswa di kursus bahasa Inggris daffodils, yaitu [θ] ke dalam suara, [ð] ke dalam [d] dan [θ] suara , [ʃ] ke [s], [š], [z], [k], dan [ʧ] terdengar, [v] ke dalam suara [F], [ʧ] ke dalam [C] dan [t] suara dan [ ʤ] Ke [ĵ], [C], [ʧ], [g], dan [s] terdengar. Sebagian besar pelafalan siswa dipengaruhi oleh bahasa ibu, bahasa Indonesia. Karena sebagian besar konsonan Indonesia tidak bersuara dan konsonan Indonesia diucapkan sama dengan bentuk tertulis. Kesimpulannya, sebagian besar pelafalan siswa dari fricatif dan afrikat Inggris dipengaruhi oleh bahasa ibu yang berbeda dari bahasa target. Disarankan agar studi di masa depan dapat dilakukan untuk melihat efek dari pengucapan yang salah pada komunikasi dalam menggunakan Bahasa Inggris.
English Abstract
This study is aimed to analyze pronunciation and the influence of mother tongue by students of English pronunciation class at Daffodils course. There are two problems of study, namely: (1) How are Fricatives and Affricates consonants pronounced by students of English pronunciation class at Daffodils course; (2) What are the influences of mother tongue on the pronunciation of Fricatives and Affricates consonant by the students at English pronunciation class at Daffodils course. This study uses qualitative approach. The participants are 25 students of English pronunciation class at Daffodils course. There are 900 pronunciation taken from 36 words which are divided into initial, middle and final positions. The writer recorded students’ pronunciation. Then, the writer analyze the data by looking at the differences between the target language and the students’ pronunciation and the influences of Indonesian language to their pronunciation. The result shows that English Fricatives and Affricates are changed into other consonant sounds, by the students at Daffodils English course, that are [θ] into [t] sound, [ð] into [t], [d] and [θ] sounds, [ʃ] into [s], [š], [z], [k], and [ʧ] sounds, [v] into [f] sound, [ʧ] into [c] and [t] sounds and [ʤ] into [ĵ], [c], [ʧ], [g], and [s] sounds. Most of students’ pronunciation are influenced by the mother tongue, Indonesian. As most of Indonesian consonants are voiceless and Indonesian consonants are pronounced same as written form. In conclusion, most of the students’ pronunciation of English Fricatives and Affricates are influenced by the mother tongue that are different from target language. It is suggested that future studies can be conducted to see the effect of incorrect pronunciation on communication in using English.
