Abstract
Ada beberapa masalah dalam belajar bahasa Inggris di SMPN 4 Batu. Salah satu masalah adalah motivasi rendah dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris terutama siswa VIII D. motivasi adalah pusat bagi siswa dalam mempelajari sesuatu. Ketika siswa memiliki motivasi rendah, para siswa akan malas untuk belajar dan dapat membuat siswa gagal dalam mempelajari materi. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini berfokus pada peningkatan motivasi siswa VIII D SMPN 4 Batu dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas kolaboratif untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian yaitu skor motivasi rata-rata kelas setidaknya 75. Peneliti menggunakan kuesioner, lembar observasi, dan catatan lapangan untuk mengumpulkan data. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan permainan peran dapat meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Hasil dari kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa skor motivasi siswa adalah 75 rata-rata ditingkatkan setelah pengobatan dan pengamatan juga menunjukkan bahwa upaya dan kegigihan siswa ditingkatkan dari 60 pada pertemuan kedua ke 74 pada pertemuan ketiga. Hasil catatan lapangan juga menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki perubahan perilaku positif dari pertemuan kedua ke pertemuan ketiga. Dengan demikian, penelitian tindakan kolaboratif ini dianggap berhasil berdasarkan temuan, peneliti mengusulkan beberapa saran terkait dengan penelitian ini. Pertama, untuk guru bahasa Inggris, disarankan untuk menggunakan kartu permainan peran dan permainan peran untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam berbahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa permainan peran mampu meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Untuk peneliti lebih lanjut, peneliti menyarankan untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam keterampilan bahasa Inggris lainnya, dan menggunakan media yang lebih baik untuk melakukan penelitian.
English Abstract
There are some problems in learning English at SMPN 4 Batu. One of the problems is low motivation in speaking English especially students of VIII D. Motivation is central for students in learning something. When students have low motivation, the students will be lazy to learn and it can make the students fail in learning the material. Thus, this research focuses on improving the students’ motivation of VIII D SMPN 4 Batu in speaking English. In this research, the researcher used collaborative classroom action research to achieve the research objective that was the average motivation score of the class is at least 75. The researcher used questionnaire, observation sheet, and field note to collect the data. The research showed that the use of role play can improve the students’ motivation in speaking English. The result from the questionnaire showed that students’ motivation score is 75 in average it is improved after the treatment and the observation also showed that students’ effort and persistence is improved from 60 in the second meeting to 74 in the third meeting. The result of field notes also showed that students had positive behavior changing from the second meeting to the third meeting. Thus, this collaborative action research is considered successful Based on the findings the researcher propose some suggestion related to this research. First, for the English teachers, it is recommended to use role play cards and role play to improve the students’ motivation in speaking English. The result of this research showed that role play is able to improve the students’ motivation in speaking English. For further researchers the researcher suggests to improve students’ motivation in other English skills, and use a better media to conduct the research.
