Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada korelasi yang signifikan antara kompetensi tata bahasa dan keterampilan menulis siswa tahun pertama di SMK Negeri 6 Malang. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 34 siswa yang diambil dari X RPL (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, Teknik Perangkat Lunak) 2 dan X RPL (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, Teknik Perangkat Lunak) 4. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, peneliti menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan teknik yang digunakan dalam hal ini Penelitian adalah teknik korelasional. Dalam penelitian ini, skor tes dan dokumentasi tahun pertama RPL (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, Teknik Perangkat Lunak) siswa dalam subjek penulisan digunakan sebagai instrumen. Tes yang digunakan oleh peneliti diadopsi dari Longman Course Lengkap untuk TOEFL Test oleh Philips (2001). Tes terkait dengan struktur bahasa Inggris dan ekspresi tertulis. Tes dalam bentuk beberapa pilihan dan tes identifikasi kesalahan. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan korelasi Karl Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada korelasi yang signifikan antara kompetensi tata bahasa dan keterampilan menulis. Itu dibuktikan dengan nilai Rxy (0,782) lebih tinggi dari rtable dalam tingkat signifikansi 5% (0,279). Dianggap bahwa hipotesis alternatif (HA) diterima dan hipotesis nol (HO) ditolak. Kesimpulannya, ada korelasi positif antara kompetensi tata bahasa dan keterampilan menulis. Selain itu, saran untuk guru bahasa Inggris harus menjelaskan tentang aturan tata bahasa dan meningkatkan pemahaman siswa dengan menggunakan metode yang baik. Untuk peneliti lebih lanjut, semoga studi ini dapat menjadi kontribusi terhadap penelitian dalam pendidikan, yang dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui korelasi dua variabel, dalam hal ini tata bahasa dan menulis.
English Abstract
This research was aimed to know whether there was a significant correlation between grammar competence and writing skills of the first year students at SMK Negeri 6 Malang. The sample of this study were 34 students taken from X RPL (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, Software Engineering) 2 and X RPL (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, Software Engineering) 4. To achieve this objective, the researcher used quantitative method and the technique used in this research was a correlational technique. In this research, the test and documentation score of the first year of RPL (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak, Software Engineering) students in the subject of writing were used as the instruments. The test that the researcher used was adopted from Longman complete course for the TOEFL test by Philips (2001). The test concerned about the English structure and written expression. The tests were in the form of multiple choices and error identification test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used correlation Karl Pearson product moment. The result of the research showed that there was significant correlation between grammar competence and writing skills. It was proven by the value of rxy (0.782) was higher than rtable in the degree of significance 5% (0.279). It was considered that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In conclusion, there is a positive correlation between grammar competence and writing skills. In addition, suggestion for English teacher should explain about grammar rules and increase the students’ comprehension by using a good method. For further researcher, hopefully this study can be a contribution to the study in education, which intended to find out the correlation of two variables, in this case grammar and writing.
