Abstract
Inside Out adalah salah satu film animasi Blockbuster yang diproduksi oleh Disney-Pixar Studio pada tahun 2015. Film ini menceritakan tentang emosi lima Riley yang dipersonifikasikan ke dalam tokoh, sukacita, kesedihan, jijik, ketakutan, dan kemarahan. Sebagai masalah penelitian, penelitian akan fokus pada menafsirkan lima karakter emosi Riley sebagai tanda di dalam film luar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Sedangkan, dalam menafsirkan objek penelitian, teori semiotika dari Charles Sanders peirce akan dikombinasikan dengan beberapa konsep, seperti: stereotip gender, warna, dan kostum sebagai teori yang didukung. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa lima karakter emosi Riley di dalam film luar menyiratkan beberapa signifikansi. Dalam stereotip gender menunjukkan bahwa anak perempuan akan lebih bahagia jika mereka dapat memenuhi `standar kecantikan` yang ramping dan tinggi sebagai representasi sukacita. Ini mirip dengan jijik yang juga memiliki tubuh ramping dan menggunakan make up seperti yang digambarkan oleh bulu mata panjang. Sementara seorang gadis yang tidak memenuhi standar akan tidak bahagia seperti yang digambarkan dalam kesedihan. Poin kedua adalah gadis cantik itu akan merasa superior daripada yang lain karena, dia memiliki kekuatan dan mendapat perhatian dari masyarakat. Itu digambarkan dalam ke dalam sebagai karakter sukacita. Selain itu, kesedihan sedang diremehkan oleh karakter lain. Yang ketiga adalah stereotip gender yang menentukan manusia harus bertindak sebagai `maskulin` diwakili oleh kemarahan dan ketakutan sebagai karakter pria. Kemarahan memamerkan kekuatannya dan menjadi maskulin. Selain itu, karakter ketakutan menunjukkan perasaan takutnya yang menunjukkan feminitas.
English Abstract
Inside Out is one of blockbuster animated film produced by Disney-Pixar studio in 2015. This film tells about five Riley’s emotions which are personified into figures, Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear, and Anger. As the problem of the study, the research will focus on interpreting the five characters of Riley’s emotions as signs in Inside Out film. This study uses qualitative method. Whereas, in interpreting the object of the study, semiotics theory from Charles Sanders Peirce will be combined with several concepts, such as: gender stereotype, colour, and costume as supported theory. The result of this study shows that the five characters of Riley’s emotions in Inside Out film imply several significances. In gender stereotype shows that girls would be happier if they could fulfilled the “beauty standard” which is being slim and tall as the representation of Joy. It is similar with Disgust who also has slim body and use make up as depicted by long eyelashes. While a girl who does not fulfill the standard will be unhappy as depicted in Sadness. The second point is the beautiful girl will feel superior than others because, she has power and get attention from society. It is depicted in Inside Out as the character of Joy. Besides, Sadness is being underestimated by other characters. The third one is gender stereotype dictates man should act as “masculine” represented by Anger and Fear as male character. Anger shows off his power and being masculine. Besides, the character of Fear shows his feeling of afraid that indicates femininity.
