Abstract
Novel sebagai bagian dari literatur memiliki hubungan dengan masyarakat. Ini menyajikan peristiwa yang terjadi di lingkungan sekitar kita. Peristiwa dijelaskan untuk menyiratkan masalah nyata melalui pekerjaan sastra. Masalah ini terjadi dalam novel putri rahasia oleh Shilpi Somaya Gowda yang berkaitan dengan masalah sosial India. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan masalah sosial India yang disajikan dalam novel. Peneliti menggunakan metode pendekatan sosiologis kualitatif-deskriptif untuk menjelaskan masalah yang muncul dalam novel anak perempuan rahasia. Peneliti menemukan bahwa ada dua masalah utama. Patriarki dan kesenjangan sosial yang dihadapi oleh keluarga India. Ada beberapa masalah yang muncul di setiap masalah. Di Patriarky, ada harapan tinggi putra, budaya mahar, feticide perempuan, dan ketidakseimbangan rasio seks saat dalam kesenjangan sosial, ada urbanisasi dan kemiskinan.
English Abstract
Novel as the part of literature has connection with the society. It presents the events that happen in the environment arround us. The events are described to imply the real issues through literary work. This issue happens in the Secret Daughter novel by Shilpi Somaya Gowda that deals with Indian social issues. This study aims at revealing the Indian social issues that are presented in the novel. The researcher uses qualitative-descriptive method of sociological approach to explain the issues that appear in the Secret Daughter novel. The researcher finds that there are two main issues; patriarchy and social gap that are faced by Indian family. There are some issues that appear in each issue. In patriarchy, there are high expectation of sons, dowry culture, female foeticide, and sex-ratio imbalance while in social gap, there are urbanization and poverty.
