Abstract
Membaca adalah salah satu keterampilan yang harus dikuasai oleh para siswa. Membaca adalah proses memahami makna yang dibawa oleh penulis dalam teks. Itu menjadi pekerjaan guru untuk membuat siswa dapat menafsirkan makna dalam teks yang mereka baca. Masalahnya adalah, di kelas ada banyak siswa dengan tingkat kemahiran mereka yang berbeda. Sementara itu, guru tidak dapat memperlakukan mereka dengan cara yang sama, tidak mungkin bagi guru untuk mengajar mereka secara individu. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, guru bahasa Inggris kelas sepuluh SMK Negeri Tutur Pasuruan menggunakan pembelajaran kooperatif sebagai metode dalam mengajar membaca. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis melakukan penelitian dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif dalam mengajar membaca untuk siswa kelas sepuluh di SMK Negeri Tutur Pasuruan dan bagaimana tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data adalah guru bahasa Inggris dan siswa kelas sepuluh SMK Negeri Tutur Pasuruan. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, pengamatan kelas dan kuesioner. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah pedoman interwiew, lembar observasi kelas dan Qustionnaire. Analisis data dilakukan dalam tiga langkah yaitu reduksi data, tampilan data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini digunakan juga triangulasi data untuk memverifikasi validitas temuan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa alasan menggunakan pembelajaran kooperatif adalah membangun pekerjaan hubungan yang baik di antara para siswa sehingga mereka dapat saling membantu untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran mereka. Dalam penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif, penulis menemukan bahwa guru menerapkan sebagian besar elemen pembelajaran kooperatif. Model pembelajaran kooperatif yang digunakan oleh guru dipikirkan pasangan-persegi dan dua tinggal dua nyasar dan guru menerapkan semua langkah dari dua model. Berdasarkan sudut pandang siswa, sudut pandang guru dan sudut pandang pengamat, para siswa menunjukkan respons positif mereka terhadap penerapan pembelajaran kooperatif. Penulis juga menawarkan beberapa saran kepada guru bahasa Inggris SMK Negeri Tutur untuk memberikan perhatian pada kosakata siswa karena masalah mereka dalam membaca juga disebabkan oleh kurangnya kosa kata. Penulis juga menyarankan untuk guru bahasa Inggris lainnya untuk mengembangkan metode pengajaran untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris. Akhirnya, penulis menyarankan kepada peneliti lebih lanjut untuk melakukan penelitian yang terkait dengan pembelajaran kooperatif dalam keterampilan lain dengan menggunakan subjek lain.
English Abstract
Reading is one of the skill which has to be mastered by the students. Reading is the process of understanding the meaning carried by the author in the text. It becomes the job of the teacher to make the students be able to interpret the meaning in the text they are reading. The problem is, in a classroom there are a lot of students with their different level of proficiency. The teacher can not treat them in the same way meanwhile, it is impossible for the teacher to teach them individually. In order to solve this problem, the English teacher of the tenth grade of SMK Negeri Tutur Pasuruan used Cooperative Learning as the method in teaching reading. In this study, the writer conducted research with the objectives to know how the application of Cooperative learning in teaching reading for the tenth grade students at SMK Negeri Tutur Pasuruan and how the students’ responses toward the application of cooperative learning. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The data sources were the English teacher and the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri Tutur Pasuruan. The data were collected through interview, classroom observation and questionnaire. The instruments used was interwiew guideline, classroom observation sheet and qustionnaire. The data analysis were done in three steps which were data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. This study used also data triangulation to verify the validity of the data findings. The result of this study showed that the reason of using cooperative learning is to build the good work of relationship among the students so they can help each other to achieve their learning goal. In the application of cooperative learning, the writer found that teacher applied most of the elements of cooperative learning. The models of cooperative learning used by the teacher were think-pair-square and two stay two stray and the teacher applied all of the steps of the two models. Based on the students’ point of view, teacher’s point of view and observer’s point of view, the students showed their positive responses toward the application of cooperative learning. The writer also offered some suggestions to the English teacher of SMK Negeri Tutur to give attention to the students’ vocabulary as their problem in reading is also caused by lack of vocabulary. The writer also suggests for other English teacher to develop the teaching method to in teaching English. At last, the writer suggests to the further researcher to conduct the research related on the Cooperative learning in other skills by using another subject.
