Abstract
Angka Jane Austen telah diciptakan kembali berkali-kali dalam berbagai bentuk seperti film, biografi dan serial televisi. Mereka tidak harus berbicara tentang Jane Austen sendiri tetapi bisa tentang kisah-kisah yang dia tulis bahwa entah bagaimana dibuat terkait dengan karakternya. Ini membantu kita memahami sosok Jane Austen melalui berbagai cara mendekat. Tidak hanya dari studi sastra, tetapi juga bagaimana karya kontemporer mewakili dia. Upaya untuk menciptakan karya Jane Austen dari teks tertulis ke dalam film sering dilakukan. Film-film kebanyakan menerima respon positif dari audiens dan austen manias. Namun, lebih banyak tanggapan yang diterima dengan menjadi Jane, film yang disutradarai oleh Julian Jarold berdasarkan biografi oleh Jon Hunter Spence, menjadi Jane Austen. Film ini menerima berbagai pendapat dan merespons dari audiensi reguler, Austen Manias dan Cendekiawan. Sebagian besar audiens tidak puas dengan film menjadi Jane. Mereka mengharapkan film untuk memberi tahu versi asli hidupnya yang berasal dari biografi. Namun demikian, kebenaran tentang kehidupan Jane Austen dalam biografi tidak boleh diperdebatkan dengan kuat karena proses pembuatan biografi melibatkan interpretasi. Di sisi lain, proses pembuatan film melibatkan proses kreatif dari penulis skenario, produser, sutradara, dll. Oleh karena itu, film tersebut dapat berhubungan dengan banyak karya lain untuk inspirasi tidak hanya biografi. Dalam tesis ini ditemukan karakteristik Jane Austen mirip dengan karakter Elizabeth Bennet dalam kebanggaan dan prasangka. Simmiliarity lainnya juga ditemukan di plot film-film itu. Terlepas dari plot kisah cinta dalam film memiliki pola yang sama dengan film periode lain, terbukti menjadi Jane film tidak hanya berkaitan dengan biografi yang tidak menggunakan plot yang sama. Sementara penampilan dua bintang, Keira Knightley dan Anne Hathaway di film cetakan gambar baru Jane Austen dalam periode kontemporer
English Abstract
Jane Austen’s figure has been recreated many times in many forms such as movie, biography and television series. They are not necessarily talking about Jane Austen herself but it can be about the stories that she wrote that somehow are made related to her character. These help us understand the figure of Jane Austen through different ways of approaching. Not only from literary studies, but also how contemporary works represent her. The attempts to create the works of Jane Austen from written text into movie have often been done. The movies mostly receive the positive responds from the audience and Austen manias. However, more various responds are received by Becoming Jane the movie directed by Julian Jarold based on the biography by Jon Hunter Spence, Becoming Jane Austen. The movie receives various opinions and responds from regular audience, Austen manias and scholars. Most of the audience is not satisfied with the movie Becoming Jane. They expect the film to tell the genuine version of her life which comes from the biography. Nevertheless, the truth about Jane Austen’s life in biography must not strongly debated because the making process of the biography involves interpretations. On the other hand, the making process of a film is involving the creative process from the screenwriter, producer, director, etc. Therefore, the movie may relate to many other works for its inspiration not only the biography. In this thesis is found Jane Austen characteristics similar to the character of Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. The other simmiliarity is also found in the plot of those movies. Despite the plot of love story in the movie has the same pattern with other period movies, it proves Becoming Jane the movie not only relate to the biography that does not use the same plot. While the appearance of the two stars, Keira Knightley and Anne Hathaway on the movie mold the new image of Jane Austen in contemporary period
