Abstract
Bahasa adalah alat utama dalam komunikasi. Ada begitu banyak bahasa di dunia, dan itu membuat kami belajar terjemahan untuk membuat kami memahami pesan dalam bahasa sumber. Peneliti menggunakan teori Newmark untuk menganalisis data. Peneliti melakukan penelitian tentang metode penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam pidato langsung Isabella Swan sebagai karakter utama dalam novel berjudul Twilight. Hanya ada satu masalah penelitian, yaitu: Apa metode penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam pidato langsung Isabella Swan sebagai karakter utama dalam novel berjudul Twilight. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif karena data adalah teks tertulis. Karena data adalah novel (analisis dokumen) sehingga, metode penelitian kualitatif sesuai. Peneliti menggunakan pidato langsung Isabella Swan mulai dari Bab 1 hingga 5, karena seorang penerjemah selalu memiliki sosok ucapannya sendiri sebagai pertimbangan dalam menerjemahkan teks. Peneliti menemukan bahwa dari delapan metode penerjemahan yang disebutkan oleh Newmark, hanya ada tujuh metode penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam novel. Ada kata untuk Word, literal, setia, semantik, bebas, idiomatis, dan juga terjemahan komunikatif. Ada 240 data pidato langsung Isabella Swan sebagai karakter utama dalam novel Twilight. Data yang menggunakan metode penerjemahan Word for Word adalah 30 data, 23 data untuk metode penerjemahan literal, 37 data untuk metode penerjemahan yang setia, 37 untuk metode terjemahan semantik, 1 untuk terjemahan idiomatik, dan 109 untuk terjemahan komunikatif. Semoga peneliti berikutnya yang tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian serupa menguraikan lebih banyak teori yang disebutkan oleh Newmark. Oleh karena itu untuk memperkaya pengetahuan dalam terjemahan mungkin peneliti berikutnya harus mengeksplorasi lebih lanjut tentang adaptasi metode penerjemahan dalam sebuah drama.
English Abstract
Language is the main tool in communication. There are so many languages in the world, and it makes us learn translation to make us understand the messages in the source language. The researcher used Newmark theory to analyze the data. The researcher conducted a study about translation method that used in the direct speech of Isabella Swan as the main character in the novel entitled Twilight. There is only one problem of the study, namely: What are the translation methods used in the direct speech of Isabella Swan as the main character in the novel entitled Twilight. This study used qualitative approach because the data are the written text. Since the data is a novel (document analysis) so, qualitative research method is appropriate. The researcher used Isabella Swan direct speech starting from chapter 1 until 5, because a translator always has his own figure of speech as his consideration in translating a text. The researcher found that from eight translation methods mentioned by Newmark, there are only seven translation methods used in the novel; there are word for word, literal, faithful, semantic, free, idiomatic, and also communicative translation. There are 240 data of direct speech of Isabella Swan as the main character in the novel Twilight. The data which used word for word translation method are 30 data, 23 data for literal translation method, 37 data for faithful translation method, 37 for semantic translation method, 1 for free translation, 1 for idiomatic translation, and 109 for communicative translation. Hopefully the next researcher who is interested in conducting similar research elaborate more the theory mentioned by Newmark. Hence to enrich knowledge in translation probably the next researcher should explore more about adaptation of translation method in a play.
