Abstract
Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing hampir mencapai semua aspek kehidupan modern. Bahasa Inggris memiliki empat keterampilan yang terdiri dari mendengarkan, berbicara, membaca dan menulis. Menulis adalah yang paling sulit dan kompleks di antara keterampilan lain karena harus menggabungkan semua elemen. Seperti beberapa masalah terjadi dalam proses penulisan. Salah satu dari mereka memiliki beberapa masalah untuk menemukan ide secara tertulis. Kemudian, siswa sering melakukan beberapa kesalahan dalam kesalahan tata bahasa dalam tulisan mereka. Mereka tidak mengatur urutan paragraf dengan baik. Peneliti menemukan beberapa masalah di SMP MA `Arif Batu setelah peneliti melakukan studi pendahuluan. Masalah lain ditemukan para siswa di kelas VIII-C mengalami kesulitan untuk menulis dalam bahasa Inggris. Mengenai masalah ini, researher menggunakan seri gambar sebagai media dalam menulis pengajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Action Research Classroom (CAR) yang diadopsi dari Kember (2000) untuk mengatasi masalah yang telah disebutkan sebelumnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam satu siklus yang terdiri dari tiga pertemuan. Siklus itu memiliki lima langkah, mereka adalah studi pendahuluan, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, mengamati, merefleksikan. Untuk mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan informasi dari observasi, kuesioner, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan tes. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa seri gambar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis mereka dalam teks recount. Siswa dalam skor penulisan ditingkatkan dari pre-test hingga post-test. Dalam pre-test, 9% siswa melewati KKM saat pasca-tes ada 83% siswa lulus KKM. Kriteria keberhasilan jika 60% siswa mencapai skor yang sama atau lebih besar dari 73 sebagai kriteria tingkat lewat minimum (KKM) SMP MA `Arif Batu. Skor ini memenuhi kriteria keberhasilan penelitian ini yaitu 60% dari siswa. Peneliti menyarankan untuk peneliti lebih lanjut, mereka dapat menggunakan penelitian ini untuk referensi untuk melakukan penelitian dengan menggunakan strategi yang sama dalam keterampilan bahasa yang berbeda. Untuk guru bahasa Inggris, dia dapat menerapkan strategi ini, keterampilan yang berbeda, atau genre teks yang berbeda tergantung pada masalah siswa.
English Abstract
English as a foreign language has almost reached all aspects of modern life. English language has four skills consisting of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Writing is the most difficult and complex among other skills because it must combine all of the elements. Such as some problems occurred in writing process. One of them have some problems to find idea in writing. Then, students often made some mistakes in grammatical errors in their writing. They do not organize the sequence of paragraphs well. The researcher found some problems at SMP Ma‟arif Batu after the researcher conducted preliminary study. The other problems was found out the students in class VIII-C had difficulty to write in English. Regarding to these problems, the researher used picture series as a media in teaching writing. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) design adopted from Kember (2000) to overcome the problem that has been mentioned before. This research was conducted in one cycle which consisted of three meeting. The cycle had five steps, they were preliminary study, planning, implementing, observing, reflecting. To collect and analyze the data, the researcher used the information from observation, questionnaire, interview, documentation and test. The result of this research reveals that picture series can improve their writing ability in recount text. The students in writing score improved from pre-test to post-test. In pre-test, 9% of the students passed the KKM while in post-test there were 83% of the students pass the KKM. The criteria of success if 60% of the students achieved the score equal or greater than 73 as the minimum passing grade criteria (KKM) of SMP Ma‟arif Batu. These score met the criteria of success of this research that was 60% of the students. The researcher suggests for further researchers, they can use this research for the reference to conduct research by using the same strategy in different language skills. For the English teacher, she can apply this strategy, different skills, or different genres of text depending on the students‟ problems.
