Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan strategi yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar berbicara tentang siswa tahun ke-10 di SMKN 3 Malang dan persepsi siswa terhadap strategi guru dalam mengajar berbicara. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif deskriptif. Itu dilakukan di SMKN 3 Malang yang terletak di Jl. Surabaya No. 1. Malang. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Inggris dan 31 siswa dari siswa kelas 10 kelas Fashion Design II. Untuk mengumpulkan data, penelitian ini menggunakan tiga instrumen, yaitu panduan wawancara untuk mendapatkan informasi tentang strategi yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris dalam berbicara, daftar periksa observasi untuk mengamati proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran di kelas, dan kuesioner untuk siswa Untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap strategi guru dalam mengajar berbicara selama proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris menggunakan berbagai strategi dalam mengajar berbicara untuk siswa kelas 10 kelas Desain Fashion II. Itu adalah kerja kelompok, bahasa yang mudah, pilihan topik yang menarik, isntruksi yang jelas, mengingatkan siswa yang berbicara dengan menggunakan bahasa ibu mereka untuk beralih ke bahasa Inggris, dan bermain peran. Strategi-strategi tersebut dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa dan menghindari kebosanan siswa dalam belajar berbicara. Oleh karena itu, siswa menikmati proses belajar mengajar. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disarankan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris harus mencari strategi yang lebih menarik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa, dan menjadi kreatif dalam mengatur kelas. Selain itu, guru bahasa Inggris juga harus dapat menciptakan situasi yang baik di kelas untuk membuat siswa lebih menyenangkan. Selain itu, bagi siswa mereka harus berlatih lebih banyak untuk berbicara bahasa Inggris baik di dalam maupun di luar kelas. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini diharapkan bermanfaat bagi peneliti berikutnya sebagai referensi dalam melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut tentang strategi guru dalam mengajar berbicara.
English Abstract
This study is aimed to describe the strategies that are used by the English teacher in teaching speaking of the 10th year students at SMKN 3 Malang and students’ perception toward the teacher’s strategies in teaching speaking. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. It was conducted at SMKN 3 Malang which is located at Jl. Surabaya No. 1. Malang. The subjects of this study were the English teacher and 31 students from the 10th year students of Fashion Design II class. To collect the data, this study used three instruments, namely interview guide to get the information about the strategies that were used by the English teacher in teaching speaking, observation checklist to observe the teaching and learning process in the classroom, and questionnaires for the students to find out the students’ perception toward the teacher’s strategies in teaching speaking during the teaching and learning process. The result of this study shows that the English teacher used various strategies in teaching speaking for the 10th year students of Fashion design II class. Those were group work, easy language, interesting topic selection, clear isntructions, reminding the students who speak by using their mother tongue to switch into English, and role play. Those strategies can improve students’ speaking skill and avoid students’ boredom in learning speaking. Therefore, the students enjoy the teaching and learning process. Based on the result of the study, it is suggested that the English teacher should look for more interesting strategies to improve students’ speaking ability, and be creative in regulating the class. Besides, the English teacher also should be able to create a good situation in the class to make the students more enjoyable. Moreover, for the students they should practice more to speak English both inside and outside the classroom. In addition, the result of this study is expected to be useful for the next researchers as the reference in conducting further research about teacher’s strategies in teaching speaking.
