Abstract

Disney sering menyiratkan stereotip gender pada film-filmnya. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menggunakan salah satu karya populernya, Aladdin. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi gender sebagai teori utama untuk menganalisis bagaimana Disney merekonstruksi peran pria tradisional melalui karakter Aladdin. Selain itu, pendekatan sosiologi dan studi film digunakan untuk menganalisis masalah gender yang digambarkan pada film. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa ada dua masalah yang menggambarkan tentang pria tradisional, pernikahan paksa dan kekerasan. Pada film Aladdin, masalah pernikahan paksa yang dipraktikkan oleh Sultan direkonstruksi melalui dialog, ekspresi wajah dan tembakan teknik. Selain itu, masalah kekerasan direkonstruksi melalui bagaimana Aladdin memperlakukan karakter bawahannya, Genie sama. Kesimpulannya adalah Disney merekonstruksi peran pria tradisional dalam masyarakat Arab dengan menabrak stereotip pria baru yang diwakili oleh Aladdin dan laki-laki tradisional yang diwakili oleh Sultan dan Jafar melalui masalah pernikahan dan kekerasan paksa dan menghasilkan Aladdin dan laki-laki baru sebagai citra pria yang didambakan oleh wanita.

English Abstract

Disney often implies gender stereotype on its movies. Therefore, this research uses one of its popular masterpieces, Aladdin. This research uses gender study as the main theory to analyze how Disney reconstructs traditional men roles through Aladdin’s character. Moreover, Sociology approach and Movie Study are used to analyze gender issues that are depicted on the movie. This research found that there are two issues that portrays about traditional men, Forced Marriage and Violence. On Aladdin movie, the Forced Marriage issues which practiced by Sultan is reconstructed through dialog, facial expression and technique shot. Besides, Violence issue is reconstructed through how Aladdin treats his subordinate character, Genie equally. The conclusion is Disney reconstructs traditional men roles in Arabic society by bumped the stereotype of New Male which is represented by Aladdin and traditional men which represented by Sultan and Jafar through Forced Marriage and Violence issues and generating Aladdin dan New Male as an image of men coveted by women.
