English Abstract
The present study investigated the correlation between reading and writing achievement on descriptive text of the students. This study was quantitative study research with correlational method. The study was done at SMAN 1 Glagah, Banyuwangi. 143 students from X MIA 1 – 4 were chosen as the sample of this research which were taken by quota sampling technique. In the data collection, the writer used two kinds of test, reading test which consists of 20 questions and writing descriptive text test as the instrument. The students were asked to do the tests for both reading and writing at the same time. Therefore, the data was in the form of students’ score from the test. The writer involved three raters in scoring the writing test. Since the study was correlational method and the data collected was ratio data, then they were computed statistically by using Pearson Product Moment in SPSS v.21. The result of coefficient correlation (ro) was 0.753 and tvalue (to) was 13.9. Then by df 141, it was compared with rtable and ttable at 5% significance which was 0.159 and 1.960. It proved that ro was higher than rtable (0.753 > 0.159) and to was also higher than ttable (13.9 > 1.96), it means that there was correlation between those two variables. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that the correlation was positive and strong. This also means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypotheses (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, there was significantly correlation between reading and writing achievement on descriptive text among the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 GLAGAH Banyuwangi.
