Abstract

Akuisisi bahasa kedua adalah studi tentang bagaimana peserta didik menciptakan sistem bahasa baru dengan hanya paparan terbatas pada bahasa kedua. Di antara faktor-faktor internal dan eksternal yang mempengaruhi akuisisi bahasa kedua, usia adalah hal yang paling sulit untuk dipahami oleh orang-orang yang usia masih dalam masalah yang diperdebatkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kinerja dewasa muda dalam belajar bahasa Prancis menggunakan dua metode. Ada metode penerjemahan tata bahasa (GTM) dan metode Pimsleur. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pembelajaran Prancis juga ditemukan. Performa ini dianalisis dengan teori Celce-Maria (1979) teori dan teori Pimsleur (1959). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kuasi-eksperimen untuk mendapatkan data. Peserta dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yang disebut kelompok kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian belajar mandiri, sehingga tidak memerlukan situasi kelas dan seorang guru. Mereka diberi 30 hari untuk mempelajari bahasa kedua, yang dipelajari kelompok kontrol dengan GTM dan kelompok eksperimen yang dipelajari dengan metode Pimsleur. Sebelum dan sesudah perawatan mereka harus menjawab tes. Dari kedua tes, peneliti menemukan bahwa kinerja dewasa muda yang belajar bahasa Prancis dengan GTM meningkat hingga 100% dan mereka yang belajar bahasa Prancis dengan metode Pimsleur meningkat hingga 502%. Selain untuk penelitian ini, peneliti membandingkan hasil proses pembelajaran pada kedua metode dan menemukan bahwa metode Pimsleur lebih baik untuk belajar bahasa kedua daripada GTM. Untuk menyimpulkan, peneliti menemukan bahwa pembelajar yang belajar bahasa Prancis dengan menggunakan metode Pimsleur adalah lima kali lebih tinggi daripada mereka yang belajar bahasa Prancis dengan menggunakan GTM. Peneliti menyarankan kepada peneliti berikutnya yang tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian serupa dengan mata pelajaran yang berbeda dan dibandingkan dengan teori lain. Bagi mereka yang tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut, peneliti menyarankan untuk fokus pada satu masalah penelitian atau menemukan korelasi dengan salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi pembelajaran bahasa kedua.

English Abstract

Second Language Acquisition is the study of how learners create a new language system with only limited exposure to a second language. Among those internal and external factors that influencing second language acquisition, age is the most difficult thing to understand by people that age is still on the debated issue. This study aimed to analyze the performance of Young Adult in Learning French using two methods; there were Grammar Translation Method (GTM) and Pimsleur Method. Factors that influenced the learning French was found out as well. The performance was analyzed by Celce-Maria (1979) theory and Pimsleur (1959) theory. This study used quantitative approach and quasi-experimental to get the data. Participants were divided into two groups, called Control group and Experimental group. This research was Self-Learning research, so it did not need a classroom situation and a teacher. They were given 30 days to learn the second language, which Control group learnt with GTM and Experimental group learnt with Pimsleur method. Before and after the treatment they must answer the test. From both tests, researcher found that the performance of Young Adult who learnt French with GTM increased up to 100% and those who learnt French with Pimsleur Method increased up to 502%. In addition for this study, the researcher compared the result of learning process on both methods and found that Pimsleur Method was better to learn second language than GTM. To conclude, researcher found that learner who learnt French by using Pimsleur method was five times higher than those who learnt French by using GTM. Researcher suggest to the next researcher who interested to conduct the similar research with different subjects and compare with other theories. For those who interested to conduct more detail research, the researcher suggests to focus on one problem of the study or find the correlation with one of the factor that affecting second language learning.
