Abstract

Seri televisi adalah produk budaya populer. Di Amerika, ada beberapa serial televisi yang membawa American Society sebagai tema utama. Serial tersebut menunjukkan perjuangan kehidupan Amerika seperti masalah sosial, konflik pribadi dan sosial, dan juga nilai Amerika. Glee sebagai serial televisi Amerika mewakili kehidupan sosial remaja Amerika. Seri televisi ini berfokus pada cara karakter mencapai mimpi mereka dengan menerapkan nilai masyarakat Amerika. Rachel Berry, karakter utama dalam serial televisi Glee, memiliki aspek individualisme dalam perjalanan untuk mencapai mimpinya. Peneliti menggunakan teori individualisme Amerika untuk menemukan aspek individualisme pada karakter Rachel Berry. Data dalam penelitian ini diambil dari adegan yang telah ditangkap bersama dengan dialog. Teori individualisme Amerika digunakan untuk menganalisis perilaku Rachel Berry di musim Glee 1-3 Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perilaku Rachel mencerminkan tiga aspek individualisme Amerika. Mereka kemandirian, kepercayaan diri, dan non-egoisme.

English Abstract

Television serial is a product of popular culture. In America, there are some television serials that take American society as the main theme. Those serials show the struggle of American life such as social problem, personal and social conflict, and also the value of American. Glee as American television serials represents the social life of American teenager. This television serial focuses on the way the characters reach their dream by applying the value of American society. Rachel Berry, major character in Glee television serial, has individualism aspect in her way to reach her dream. The researcher uses the theory of American individualism to find the aspects of individualism on Rachel Berry character. The data in this research is taken from the scenes that have been captured along with the dialogue. The theory of American individualism is used to analyze the behavior of Rachel Berry in Glee Season 1- 3 The result of this research shows that Rachel’s behavior reflects the three aspects of American individualism. They are Self-Reliance, Self-Confidence, and Non Self-Egoism.
