Abstract
Teks deskriptif adalah salah satu teks monolog yang harus dipelajari di sekolah menengah pertama. Konten, organisasi, tata bahasa, kosakata, dan mekanik adalah lima aspek yang harus diperhatikan dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Dari aspek-aspek tersebut, para siswa biasanya memiliki masalah dalam tata bahasa, kosakata, konten dan organisasi. Masalah-masalah itu disebabkan oleh teknik pengajaran dan pembelajaran dalam menulis teks deskriptif yang hanya berfokus pada produk akhir daripada pada proses penulisan. Berdasarkan hasil studi pendahuluan, ditemukan bahwa siswa tahun ke-8 di kelas A SMP Wahid Hasyim Malang memiliki masalah dalam proses menulis teks deskriptif yang dapat menyebabkan masalah lain, seperti yang buruk dalam organisasi, seperti juga kurangnya kosakata dan tata bahasa. Mengenai fenomena itu, peneliti mengusulkan strategi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki bagaimana strategi tolong dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa tahun kedelapan SMP Wahid Hasyim Malang dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas, diharapkan penelitian ini dapat memecahkan masalah siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Penelitian ini hanya dilakukan dalam satu siklus yang terdiri dari tiga pertemuan. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan panduan wawancara, catatan lapangan, tes, dan daftar periksa observasi sebagai instrumen penelitian. Peneliti menetapkan dua kriteria keberhasilan, (1) 75% dari siswa (24 dari 31 siswa) akan aktif dalam belajar kegiatan menulis selama implementasi strategi tolong, dan (2) 70% dari siswa (22) 31 siswa) mencapai KKM, yaitu 75. Kesimpulannya, dari dua kriteria keberhasilan yang telah ditetapkan, didirikan bahwa kriteria pertama dicapai sejak 90% siswa aktif dalam proses menulis teks deskriptif. Kriteria kedua juga tercapai sejak 84% siswa (26 dari 31 siswa) telah lulus skor KKM. Berdasarkan hasil di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tolong strategi dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Selanjutnya, pilih langkah silakan strategi memiliki kekuatan untuk membantu siswa dalam mencapai skor yang baik dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Itu bisa terjadi, karena gambar-gambar sebagai media yang terkandung dalam langkah pick yang dapat memotivasi dan merangsang ide siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Karena masih ada kelemahan yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini seperti batasan waktu dan masih ada siswa yang gagal mencapai skor KKM, diharapkan bahwa peneliti lebih lanjut dapat melakukan penelitian serupa dengan persiapan yang lebih baik untuk hasil yang lebih baik.
English Abstract
Descriptive text is one of the monologue texts that has to be learnt in Junior High School. Content, organization, grammar, vocabulary and mechanics are five aspects that should be concerned in writing descriptive text. From those aspects, the students usually have problems in grammar, vocabulary, content and organization. Those problems are caused by the teaching and learning techniques in writing descriptive text which only focused on the final product rather than on the writing process. Based on the result of preliminary study, it was found that 8th year students in class A of SMP Wahid Hasyim Malang had problems in the process of writing descriptive text that can cause the other problems, such as poor in content, weak in organization, as well as lack of vocabulary and grammar. Concerning with those phenomena, the researcher proposes PLEASE Strategy to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. This study aims at investigating how PLEASE Strategy could improve the eighth year students’ ability of SMP Wahid Hasyim Malang in writing descriptive text. Using classroom action research, it is expected that this study can solve the students’ problems in writing descriptive text. This research was only conducted in one cycle which consisted in three meetings. In this study, the researcher used interview guide, field notes, test, and observation checklist as research instruments. The researcher set two criteria of success, (1) 75% of the students (24 out of 31 students) will be active in learning writing activities during the implementation of PLEASE Strategy, and (2) 70% of the students (22 out of 31 students) achieve KKM, which is 75. In conclusion, from the two criteria of success that had been set, it is established that the first criterion is accomplished since 90% of the students are active in the process of writing descriptive text. The second criterion is also accomplished since 84% of the students (26 out of 31 students) have already passed the KKM Score. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that PLEASE strategy can improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. Furthermore, PICK step in PLEASE strategy has a power to help the students in achieving a good score in writing descriptive text. It can happen, due to the pictures as the media which is contained in PICK step that can motivate and stimulate students’ idea in writing descriptive text. Since there are still weaknesses found in this research such as the limitation of time and there are still students who failed to reach KKM score, it is hoped that further researchers can conduct a similar research with better preparations for the better result.
