Abstract
Media yang tepat itu sangat diperlukan dalam pembelajaran menulis untuk Siswa SMP. Salah satu media yang dapat digunakan untuk menarik minat siswa yaitu gambar ber-seri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan gambar berseri dalam aktifitas menulis untuk kelas 8 di SMPN 1 Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro. Masalah dalam penelitian ini yaitu: (1) Bagaimana penggunaan gambar berseri dalam aktifitas menulis 8 SMPN 1 Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro?; (2) Apa saja kelebihan dan kekurangan penggunaan gambar berseri dalam aktifitas menulis?; (3) Masalah apa saja yang dihadapi siswa dalam menggunakan gambarberseri?; (4) Apa saja peran guru dalam penggunaan gambar berseri?; (5) Apa saja pendapat siswa tentang dalam penggunaan gambar berseri?. Penelitian ini menggunakan design deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek dari penelitian satu guru bahasa Inggris dan 32 siswa di VIII.H SMPN 1 Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu lembar observasi, kuisioner, dan pedoman interview. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru menggunakan teks recount dan penggunaan simple past tense. Guru menggunakan gambar ber-seri sebagai media yang dibuatnya sendiri. Selain itu, peneliti juga menemukan ada 5 kelebihan dan 3 kekurangan dari penggunaan gambar ber-seri dalam aktivitas menulis. Selanjutnya, tidak banyak masalah yang di hadapi siswa ketika menggunakan gambar ber-seri dalam aktifitas menulis. Masalah yang di hadapi hanya bagaimana cara menulis bahasa Inggris dengan mudah karena kurangnya pengetahuan kosa kata. Peneliti juga menemukan bahwa guru berperan sebagai: demonstrator, evaluator, motivator, provokator, supporter and responder. Sebagai tambahan, ada banyak pendapat siswa tentang penggunaan gambar ber-seri dalam aktifitas menulis. Peneliti menyarankan untuk guru bahasa Inggris perlu menyiapkan media yang tepat sesuai materi seperti gambar ber-seri dalam menulis. Untuk peneliti selanjutnya, disarankan untuk menganalisis penggunaan gambar ber-seri dalam strategi, kemampuan (Skill), level, dan metode penelitian yang lainnya.
English Abstract
Appropriate media is needed to help teachers in teaching writing for Junior High School because it is interesting for the students. Picture series is one of media which can be used in teaching writing to get the students’ enthusiastic. This research was aimed to describe the use of picture series in writing activities for the 8th graders of SMPN 1 Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro. It focused on answering five questions: (1) How is the use of picture series as a media in writing activities for 8th graders of SMPN 1 Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro? (2) What are the advantages and disadvantages of using picture series as a media in writing activities? (3) What are the problems faced by the students in using picture series in writing activities? (4) What are the teacher’ roles in using picture series in writing activities? (5) What are the students’ opinions about the use of picture series in writing activities? In order to obtain the data, a descriptive qualitative research design was used in this study. The subjects of this study were thirty two students of of VIII.H SMPN 1 Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro. Moreover, the instruments used in this study were observation sheet, questionnaire, and also interview guide. The findings of this research showed that the teacher used recount text in writing skill, and the simple past tense included. For the instructional media the teacher used picture series by himself. Beside that, the researcher also found that there were five advantages and three disadvantages of the use picture series as a media in writing activity. Moreover, there were no problems faced by the students in using picture series in writing activities. They only faced problems on how to write in English easily because they were lack of vocabulary. In teaching writing by using picture series the researcher found that the teacher had some roles in teaching writing by using picture series such as demonstrating, evaluating, motivating, provoking, supporting, and responding. In addition, there were various students’ opinions about the use picture series in writing activity. The researcher suggests English teachers needs to prepare the appropriate media according to the material such as picture series in writing text. For the future researchers, it is suggested that analyze the use of picture series in different strategies, skills, levels and research design.
