Abstract
Pada zaman sekarang, logo bukanlah hal yang asing lagi bagi masyarakat. Dengan dukungan teknologi apalagi, pembuatan logo dapat menjadi lebih kreatif dan mudah. Greja Kristen Jawi Wetan atau disingkat GKJW merupakan salah satu organisasi gereja yang memakai logo seagai identitas dan untuk menyampaikan pesan kepada jemaat gereja. Peneliti memiliki dua permasalahan dalam penelitian ini, yakni: (1) Apa tanda-tanda yang terdapat dalam logo Greja Kristen Jawi Wetan? dan (2) Apa interpretasi yang terkandung dalam logo Greja Kristen JawiWetan? Peneliti menganalisa penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif karena penulis menginterpretasi makna secara mendalam. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Peirce (pada Chandler, 2007) tentang triadic model of signs; representamen, object dan interpretant. Dalam pengumpulan data juga dibutuhkan wawancara dengan sang informan, Bapak Hari Sudjlamo sebagaimana satusatunya orang yang telah menciptakan logo GKJW. Penelitian ini menunjukkan tujuh tanda yang dikategorikan sebagai modemode simbolik. Logo yang diteliti memiliki 6 ikon dan 1 simbol, antara lain, tanda awan, tanda joglo (rumah adat Jawa Timur), tanda merpati, tanda tiga api, simbol salib, tanda alkitab dan tanda relung (bulatan). Pada tanda-tanda tersebut dapat diidentifikasi bahwa setiap tanda memiliki makna-makna yang berbeda yang mana tanda-tanda tersebut digunakan untuk mewakili identitas GKJW serta untuk menyampaikan makna mendalam logo berkaitan dengan firman Tuhan terhadap jemaat. Dalam hasil penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan hubungan antara desain tanda-tanda tersebut dengan budaya Jawa pada logo GKJW. Untuk lebih lanjutnya, peneliti menyarankan agar peneliti-peneliti masa mendatang agar dapat menganalisa obyek yang berbeda seperti pada poster, baliho, brosur, terkhusus log-logo organisasi yang memiliki bentuk yang unik.
English Abstract
In this era, logo is not a foreign thing anymore. People can create logo creatively and easily because the supporting of technology. Church organization in this case,GKJW or Greja Kristen Jawi Wetan, as translated into East Java Christian Church is the example which uses logo as the identity, and message to deliver the church congregation. In conducting the research, the writer aims to analyze two problems of the study, namely: (1) what are the signs found on East Java Christian Church logo? and (2) what are the interpretions of the signs found on East Java Christian Church logo? The writer describes the research with qualitative approach because the writer needs an intense interpretation to describe the meaning. The data is analyzed using Peirce’s theory (in Chandler 2007) about a triadic model of signs; they are representamen, object and interpretant. In collecting the data, it needs to interview an informant, Mr. Hari Sudjalmo which is the one and only the designer of the GKJW logo. This research portrays seven signs which all of the signs are categorized as symbolic modes. The result of the research represents six icons and one symbol, such as icon of cloud, icon of joglo (traditional house of East Java), icon of dove, icon of three fire, symbol of Cross, icon of Holy Bible, and icon of relung (niches). Those signs describe different interpretation in the research process which the icons aim to deliver the identity of what church is GKJW and also to deliver the deep message to people especially the church congregation related to the God’s word. There is also relationship between the design of the signs and the Javanese cultural in each sign in the GKJW logo. For the further, the writer suggests for the next writers to analyze in different objects such as posters, ballyhoos, brochures, especially logos of organizations that has a unique curve.
