Abstract

Bahasa merupakan penghubung antar pembicara dalam berkomunikasi. Seperti bahasa Inggris yang menjadi bahasa kedua maupun bahasa asing di berbagai belahan dunia. Karena, bahasa Inggris dapat menyatukan orang-orang dari ras yang berbeda. Di dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing, film merupakan salah satu media yang dapat digunakan untuk menerapkan pendekatan Communicative Language Teaching. Sehubungan dengan pembahasan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan cara guru mengaplikasikan Communicative Language Teaching di film Freedom Writers. Peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif qualitatif berdasarkan data yang diambil dari film dalam bentuk perbuatan dan ucapan. Data yang dikumpulkan dari film Freedom Writers yang menyesuaikan hasil observasi berdasarkan teori Richard (2006). Langkah-langkah dalam melakukan penelitian ini yaitu mengamati film, menentukan adegan dan ungkapan yang sesuai dengan permasalahan, lalu mendaftar aktivitas yang diterapkan guru berkaitan dengan Communicative Language Teaching yang diterapkan oleh guru. Berdasarkan temuan dari penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan 6 macam aktivitas Communicative Language Teaching di film tersebut, yaitu: task completion activity, the push for authenticity, information gap, accuracy task, communicative practice and emphasis on pair and group pair work. Setelah menganalisis data, aktivitas yang sering digunakan oleh guru tersebut ialah task completion activity. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat sebagai sumber untuk guru yang ingin mengajar kelas multiras. Selain itu, para peneliti selanjutnya dapat menggunakan metode pengajaran bahasa jenis lain sebagai onjek dalam menganalisis film ini atau menggunakan film yan berbeda dengan menggunakan metode pengajaran bahasa yang sama.

English Abstract

Language is a bridge of communication because it is the connector between interlocutors. Like English does, it has became the second and foreign language in many parts of the world, since it also unites people from different racial. In teaching English as foreign language, film is one of media that can be used in implementing Communicative Language Teaching approach. Regarding to the discussion mentioned, this study aims to find out the way Freshman English teacher applies Communicative Language Teaching in Freedom Writers film. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research design based on the data taken from the film in the form of action and utterances. The data were collected from Freedom Writers film by synchronizing the result of observation based on the theory from Richard (2006). Steps in doing this study were watching the film while selecting the action and utterances dealing with and list all of Communicative Language Teaching activities that were applied by teacher. As the finding of this study, the researcher found 6 kinds of Communicative Language Teaching activities in the film, those are: task completion activity, the push for authenticity, information gap, accuracy task, communicative practice and emphasis on pair and group pair work. After analyzing the data, there was an activity used by the teacher in the film that was task completion activity. As the suggestion, this study will be expected as a source for the teacher who will teach in multiracial classroom. Besides, the future researcher also could use other kinds of language teaching methodology in this film or choosing different films by using the same kind of language teaching methodology.
