Abstract
Bahasa adalah alat komunikasi verbal yang memiliki sistem dan aturan tertentu. Sistem dan aturan dalam suatu bahasa dikenal sebagai sintaksis. Sintaks mempelajari bagaimana kata-kata terstruktur dalam aturan tertentu yang dapat membentuk frasa atau kalimat yang benar. Ungkapan dan kalimat tidak hanya ditemukan dalam bentuk tertulis, tetapi juga ditemukan dalam cara bicara seperti beberapa ucapan yang diproduksi dari film. Penelitian ini menganalisis film Hindi, Inggris Vinglish, salah satu film Hindi yang dirilis pada Oktober, 5th 2012. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur kalimat yang digunakan oleh delapan karakter India dalam film Vinglish English. Ada dua masalah penelitian: (1) Apa jenisnya dan fungsi ucapan yang digunakan dalam film Inggris Vinglish? Dan (2) Apa struktur sintaksis ucapan yang ditemukan dalam bahasa Inggris film Vinglish? Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif karena data dikumpulkan dalam bentuk kata-kata. Penulis menganalisis ucapan bahasa Inggris sebagai data dan sumber data diambil dari delapan karakter India dalam film Vinglish Inggris. Dalam menganalisis data, penulis menerapkan pola kalimat berdasarkan teori Lintah, et al (2006), mengklasifikasikan ucapan bahasa Inggris ke dalam jenis dan fungsi kalimat menggunakan teori rozakis `(2003), maka penulis menggambarkan sintaksisnya Struktur ucapan itu menggunakan teori Francis `(1958). Studi ini menemukan bahwa ada tiga jenis kalimat. Mereka adalah kalimat sederhana, kalimat majemuk, dan kalimat kompleks, dan ada empat fungsi kalimat. Deklaratif, interogatif, seru, dan imperatif yang digunakan oleh karakter India. Jenis yang paling banyak digunakan adalah kalimat sederhana, berisi 122 kalimat, dan fungsi yang sebagian besar digunakan adalah kalimat deklaratif sebanyak 98 kalimat. SPC (subjek, predikat, dan pelengkap) adalah pola kalimat yang paling sering digunakan dalam kalimat sederhana sebagai deklaratif. Untuk struktur sintaksis, penulis menemukan struktur kalimat tertinggi adalah struktur predikasi. Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar orang India dalam film Vinglish Inggris menggunakan kalimat sederhana sebagai deklaratif, karena orang-orang India bukan penutur asli bahasa Inggris, sehingga struktur kalimat termudah yang digunakan adalah kalimat sederhana.
English Abstract
Language is a tool of verbal communication which has a system and certain rules. The system and rules in a language are known as Syntax. Syntax studies how words are structured in particular rules which can form a correct phrase or sentence. The phrase and sentence are not only found in written form, but also found in spoken way like some utterances which are produced from a movie. This research analyzes Hindi movie, English Vinglish, one of Hindi movie which was released on October, 5th 2012. This research aims to find out the sentence structure used by Eight Indian’s character in English Vinglish movie. There are two problems of the study: (1) what are the types and the functions of utterances used in English Vinglish movie? And (2) what are the syntactic structure of utterances found in English Vinglish movie? The study used descriptive qualitative approach since the data are collected in the form of words. The writer analyzed the English utterances as the data and the data source were taken from eight Indian’s characters in English Vinglish movie. In analyzing the data, the writer applied the patterns of sentence based on theory of Leech, et al (2006), classifying the English utterances into the types and the function of sentence uses Rozakis’(2003) theory, then the writer described the syntactic structure of those utterance using Francis’ (1958) theory. This study found that there are three types of sentences; they are simple sentence, compound sentence, and complex sentence, and there are four functions of sentence; declarative, interrogative, exclamatory and imperative those are used by the characters of India. The most widely used type is a simple sentence, containing 122 sentences, and the function mostly used is declarative sentence as many as 98 sentences. SPC (Subject, Predicate, and Complement) is a sentence’s pattern that is most frequently used in simple sentences as declarative. For syntactic structure, the writer found the highest sentence structure is structure of predication. The writer concludes that most of the Indians in English Vinglish movie use a simple sentence as declarative, because Indian people are not native speaker of English, so the easiest sentence structure used is simple sentence.
