Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki bagaimana teknik jigsaw dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pelafalan siswa pada bunyi vokal di kelas X-IPA 2 SMAN 1 Torjun pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X-IPA 2 SMAN 1 Torjun. Terdapat 26 siswa di kelas X-IPA 2, yaitu terdiri dari 8 siswa dan 18 siswi. Dalam penelitian ini, teknik jigsaw diterapkan pada topik tentang teks naratif dengan menyertakan praktek dalam pelafalan bunyi vokal. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas kolaboratif yang dilaksanakan dalam satu siklus dimana terdiri dari 4 pertemuan. Setiap pertemuan terdiri dari tiga kegiatan selama proses belajar mengajar, yaitu kegiatan awal, kegiatan inti, dan kegiatan penutup. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui lembar observasi, catatan lapang, kuesioner, pre-tes dan pos-tes. Data yang diperoleh dari lembar observasi, catatan lapang, dan kuesioner dianalisa secara kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui situasi, masalah, dan tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan teknik jigsaw. Sedangkan pre-tes dan pos-tes dianalisa secara kuantitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemajuan siswa dalam melafalkan bunyi vokal. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan pelafalan siswa pada bunyi vokal meningkat melalui teknik jigsaw. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari peningkatan persentase skor siswa pada pelafalan bunyi vokal. Hasil dari pre-tes menunjukkan bahwa 57.7% siswa tampil baik dan sangat baik, sementara hasil dari pos-tes menunjukkan kemajuan, yaitu 76.9% siswa tampil baik dan sangat baik. Hasil dari pos-tes ini telah mencapai kriteria sukses dimana 75% siswa atau lebih tampil baik dan sangat baik dalam melafalkan bunyi vokal. Selain itu, hasil lembar observasi dan catatan lapang menunjukkan bahwa terdapat kemajuan pada situasi di dalam kelas. Kuesioner juga menunjukkan tanggapan positif dari siswa terhadap penerapan teknik jigsaw. Akhirnya, peneliti memberikan saran kepada guru bahasa Inggris untuk dapat menerapkan teknik jigsaw dalam memecahkan masalah pelafalan pada bunyi vokal. Untuk lembaga sekolah, disarankan untuk mempertimbangkan penerapan teknik jigsaw dalam pembelajaran pelafalan. Sedangkan, untuk peneliti selanjutnya, disarankan penelitian lebih jauh tentang penerapan teknik jigsaw sebaiknya dilakukan pada unsur lain dalam kemampuan berbicara.
English Abstract
This study was mainly intended to figure out how jigsaw technique can improve the students’ pronunciation of vowel sounds at X-IPA 2 class of SMAN 1 Torjun in the second semester of academic year 2014/2015. There were 26 students in the class which consisted of 8 male students and 18 female students. In this study, jigsaw technique was implemented toward the topic of narrative text by involving pronunciation practice about vowel sounds. The design of this study was collaborative classroom action research which was conducted in one cycle consisted of four meetings. Each meeting consisted of three activities during teaching learning process; pre-activities, whilst-activities, and post-activities. The data in this study were collected through observation sheet, field notes, questionnaire, pre-test and post-test. The data obtained from the observation sheet, field notes, and questionnaire was analyzed qualitatively in order to know the situation, the problems, and the students’ response toward the implementation of jigsaw technique. While pre-test and posttest were analyzed quantitatively in order to know the improvement of the students’ pronunciation of vowel sounds. The findings showed that the students’ pronunciation of vowel sounds improved through jigsaw technique. It can be seen from the increasing of percentage of the students’ score in pronunciation of vowel sounds. The result of pre-test showed that 57.7% of the students perform good and excellent, while the result of post-test showed the improvement that 76.9% of the students perform good and excellent. The result of post-test achieved the criteria of success in which 75% or more of the students perform good and excellent in pronouncing vowel sounds. In addition, the observation sheet and field notes showed that there was improvement toward the situation in the class. Also, the questionnaire showed that there was positive response from the students toward the implementation of jigsaw technique. Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that the English teacher can apply jigsaw technique to solve the problem of pronunciation in vowel sounds. For the institution, it is suggested that consider apply jigsaw technique in teaching pronunciation. Also, for the future researcher, it is suggested that a further research about the use/implementation of jigsaw technique should be done to the other elements of speaking.
