Abstract
Dalam periode terakhir ini, Pemerintah Indonesia mulai menerapkan kurikulum baru bernama kurikulum 2013. Untuk menyelesaikan implementasi kurikulum baru, Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan telah menyediakan buku teks untuk digunakan di kelas, bukan pengecualian buku teks bahasa Inggris. Karena ini adalah kurikulum baru yang mengambil alih sistem sebelumnya, evaluasi buku teks diperlukan untuk mengidentifikasi nilai potensial bahan pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan dan menjelaskan pada apa yang memperluas kualitas buku teks bahasa Inggris yang dipublikasikan pemerintah untuk siswa kelas XI. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif analisis konten. Skala penilaian evaluasi kriteria digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mengukur seberapa banyak buku teks memenuhi persyaratan BSNP sebagai Dewan Standar Pendidikan Nasional di Indonesia dalam hal kelayakan konten dan kelayakan presentasi. Penilaian dilakukan dengan memberikan skor yang berkisar dari 1 hingga 4. Hasil akhir disajikan dalam macam persentase yang dibagi menjadi miskin (10% - 40%), adil (41% - 60%), baik (61% - 80 (80%) %), dan sangat baik (81% - 100%). Hasil analisis data, ditemukan bahwa buku teks bahasa Inggris memenuhi syarat sebagai buku teks yang baik dalam kedua kriteria kelayakan. Dalam hal kelayakan konten, buku teks memenuhi 68,7% dan dalam hal kelayakan presentasi buku teks diperoleh 75%. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, peneliti menyarankan agar penerbit lebih memprihatinkan dan memperhatikan konten buku teks, tidak hanya kompatibilitasnya dengan kurikulum saat ini, tetapi juga yang kompatibel dengan kebutuhan siswa. Selanjutnya, untuk para guru diharapkan lebih kreatif dan kritis dalam menggunakan buku teks. Yang terakhir adalah untuk para peneliti masa depan yang melakukan penelitian yang sama, disarankan untuk menggunakan kriteria yang berbeda dan lebih rinci dalam mengeksplorasi kualitas setiap bahan yang disediakan.
English Abstract
In this last period, the Government of Indonesia began to implementing a new curriculum named Curriculum 2013. To complete the implementation of the new curriculum, the Ministry of Education and Culture has provided textbooks to be used in the classroom, not the exception English textbook. Since it is a new curriculum that takes over the previous system, the evaluation of a textbook is needed to identify the potential value of learning materials. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine and describe to what extend the quality of the government-published English textbooks for XI grade students. This study uses descriptive qualitative approach of content analysis. The criteria evaluation rating scale is used in this study to measure how much the textbook meets the requirement of BSNP as the board of national education standards in Indonesia in terms of feasibility of content and feasibility of presentation. The assessment did by giving a score that ranges from 1 to 4. The final result presented in the percentage assortments that are divided into poor (10% – 40%), fair (41% – 60%), good (61% – 80%), and excellent (81% – 100%). The result of the data analysis, it is found that the English textbook was qualified as a good textbook in both criteria of feasibility. In terms of the feasibility of content the textbook fulfils 68.7% and in terms of feasibility of presentation the textbook obtained 75%. Based on the findings of this study the researcherr suggested that for the publisher to be more concern and pay attention to the content of the textbook, not only its compatibility with the current curriculum, but also the compatible with students’ needs. Furthermore, for the teachers are expected to be more creative and critical in using the textbook. The last is for the future researchers who conduct the same study, it is suggested to use different and more detailed criteria in exploring the quality of each material provided.
