Abstract
Bahasa adalah properti manusia yang mencerminkan identitas seseorang. Setiap orang mungkin memiliki cara berbicara yang berbeda karena beberapa faktor, salah satu faktornya adalah status sosial. Salah satu contoh bagaimana status sosial dapat memengaruhi perilaku bahasa seseorang adalah keberadaan Bahasa Inggris Vernakular Amerika Afrika (Ave). Penelitian ini menyelidiki pola tata bahasa yang dihasilkan oleh karakter utama film bantuan. Ada dua masalah yang harus diselesaikan: (1) Apa pola tata bahasa Afrika Amerika (AAVE) Bahasa Inggris (AAVE) yang digunakan oleh karakter utama film Bantuan? (2) Apa perbedaan tata bahasa antara Inggris Afrika Amerika Vernakular (AAVE) yang digunakan oleh karakter utama film Bantuan dan Bahasa Inggris Amerika Standar?. Dalam melakukan penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan teori dari Green (2002), Wolfram (2000) dan Trudgill (2011). Studi ini adalah studi deskriptif-kualitatif yang menggunakan analisis dokumen karena data dalam bentuk skrip film dari bantuan film. Data dari penelitian ini adalah ucapan Aibileen Clark `S dan Minny Jackson yang berisi fitur tata bahasa Aave. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menemukan bahwa ada 166 ucapan yang berisi 22 jenis fitur tata bahasa Aave. Perbedaan fitur tata bahasa AAVE dan standar bahasa Inggris berbaring pada frasa dan bentuk kata kerjanya, negasi (penanda negatif dan jumlah penanda negatif), nominal (redundansi dan tidak adanya suffix, penggunaan Anda untuk jamak ke-2 dan Mereka sebagai kata ganti posesif, mereka untuk demonstratif, bentuk tidak teratur dari kata ganti refleksif, dan dataran manfaatkan). dan inversi dalam formasi pertanyaan. Dalam film ini, karakter utama menggunakan lebih banyak ketika mereka berbicara dengan orang-orang Afrika-Amerika lainnya (terutama orang-orang yang memiliki status yang sama dengan mereka) daripada dengan orang kulit putih Amerika. Penulis berharap bahwa penelitian ini dapat bermanfaat bagi para peneliti berikutnya sebagai referensi untuk melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut tentang topik Ave. Penulis menyarankan peneliti berikutnya untuk menganalisis fitur-fitur lain dari Ave, seperti fitur fonologis dan leksikalnya dalam percakapan nyata pembicara Ave dalam dialog yang sebenarnya.
English Abstract
Language is a human being‟s property which reflects someone‟s identity. Every person may have different way of speaking because of several factors, one of the factors is the societal status. One of the examples of how social status can affect someone‟s language behaviour is the existence of African American Vernacular English (AAVE). This study investigates AAVE grammatical patterns produced by the main character of The Help movie. There are two problems to be solved: (1) What are the patterns of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) grammar used by the main character of The Help movie? (2) What are the grammar differences between African American Vernacular English (AAVE) used by the main character of The Help movie and Standard American English?. In conducting this study, the writer used theories from Green (2002), Wolfram (2000) and Trudgill (2011). The study is a descriptive-qualitative study which uses document analysis since the data are in the form of movie script of The Help movie. The data of this study are Aibileen Clark‟s and Minny Jackson‟s utterances containing AAVE grammatical features. In this study, the writer found that there are 166 utterances containing 22 types of AAVE grammatical features. The differences of AAVE grammatical features and Standard English lay on its verb phrase and form, Negation (negative marker and the amount of negative marker), Nominals (the redundancy and absence of suffix -s, the use of y’all for 2nd plural and they as possessive pronoun, them for attributive demonstrative, irregular form of reflexive pronouns, and benefactive datives); and the inversion in Question Formation. In this movie, the main character are using AAVE more when they are talking to other African-American people (especially people who have equal status with them) than with White Americans. Thus, it can be concluded that social status does affect AAVE speakers‟ language behaviour. The writer expects that this study can be useful for the next researchers as a reference to conduct further research about AAVE topic. The writer suggests the next researcher to analyze other features of AAVE, such as its phonological and lexical features in the real conversation of AAVE speakers in the real dialogue .
