Abstract
Bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa internasional yang harus dipahami oleh semua negara, termasuk Indonesia. Kegiatan belajar mengajar Bahasa Inggris yang efektif sangat diperlukan untuk pelajar di Indonesia. Efektif atau tidak dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor seperti strategi mengajar guru, pengelolaan ruang kelas dan siswa sendiri. Banyak hal yang digunakan untuk mengukur sebuah kelas efektif atau tidak untuk belajar. Penulis menggunakan 4 instrumen untuk mengukur efektif atau tidaknya pengelolaan ruang kelas baik eksternal maupun internal. Penulis menggunakan lembar observasi, wawancara terbimbing dan catatan lapang. Lembar observasi yang digunakan diadaptasi dari Burden (1995) dan Teaff (2007) sedangkan untuk wawancara terbimbing penulis memiliki 10 pertanyaan terkait pengelolaan kelas. Subjek penelitian ini adalah Guru Bahasa Inggris dan siswa – siswa kelas X IPS 4. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengelolaan ruang kelas, strategi mengajar guru dan siswa di kelas untuk menunjang kegiatan belajar mengajar yang efektif. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penulis melakukan 3 kali observasi kelas untuk memperoleh data dan 1 kali wawancara terbimbing kepada guru Bahasa Inggris kelas X IPS 4. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa 5 aspek yang ada dalam lembar observasi yaitu pengelolaan fisik, instruksi waktu, instruksi strategi, pertanggungjawaban kelakuan dan hubungan social telah tercapai keseluruhan. Pengelolaan kelas di kelas X IPS 4 di SMA Panjura Malang telah efektif untuk mendukung proses belajar mengajar. Proses observasi menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki karakter autoritatif. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, penulis menyarankan kepada guru untuk memiliki metode, strategi dan media yang bervariasi dalam proses belajar sehingga meningkatkan motivasi siswa untuk belajar. Guru juga harus menempatkan diri pada perannya sebagai guru. Sabar sangat dibolehkan tapi apabila terlalu sabar juga akan membuat siswa tidak serius dalam belajar.
English Abstract
English is international language that should be learnt by people in every country, included Indonesia. Effective English language teaching and learning process was needed for students in Indonesia. Whether classroom is effective to support teaching and learning process was influenced by many factors such as teaching strategy, managing classroom and students themselves. The writer uses 4 instruments to measure the effectiveness of classroom external and internal. The writer uses observation form, interview guide and field note. Observation form that use adapted from Burden (1995) Teaff (2007). For interview guide the writer prepares 10 questions related to classroom management. The subjects of this study are the English teacher of X IPS 4 and 33 students of X IPS 4. The objective of this study is to find out how to manage classroom, teaching strategies and student behavior to create effective classroom. This study uses descriptive qualitative research. The writer conducts the observation 3 times and 1 time interview guide for the English teacher of X IPS 4. The result of the study reveal that 5 aspects that being analyzed from observation form, they are physical arrangement, instructional time, instructional strategies, behavioral consideration, and social climates are fulfill completely. The classroom management of X IPS 4 SMA Panjura Malang is effective enough to support teaching and learning process. The observation shows that the teacher has authoritative characteristic. Based on the study, the writer suggested that teacher should have various methods, strategies and media to increase students motivation. Teacher should play as main role for students. Teacher should have patient to face students, but if they over patient it can make students not serious during learning process.
