Abstract
Skripsi ini membahas tentang penggunaan istilah-istilah dan kata-kata umum yang digunakan sebagai bahasa militer pada film “Shooter”. Pada subtitle atau naskah film tersebut terdapat banyak kata dan istilah dalam konteks umum yang ditemukan di beberapa adegan, dimana adegan tersebut terjadi. Lebih mudahnya, kata yang menurut konteks umum, bila digunakan oleh militer, memberikan arti yang berbeda. Sehingga, orang-orang yang mempelajari Bahasa Inggris akan mengalami kesulitan untuk mempelajarinya dikarenakan beberapa di antaranya memiliki minat tertentu. Memberi penjelasan dari kata dan istilah militer secara benar merupakan tujuan utama. Metode penelitian yang akan digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif, dengan menganalisis data yang dikumpulkan (sumber data itu sendiri adalah naskah film) yang kemudian menjelaskan arti dari data tersebut. Serta, memasukan data ke dalam table yang digambar secara khusus untuk mengatur data tersebut. Ada sekitar 51 kata-kata dan istilah-istilah umum yang digunakan menurut konteks militer yang ditemukan di naskah film “Shooter”. Beberapa kata-kata dan istilah-istilah yang digunakan dalam konteks militer perlu dianalisa secara benar untuk menghindari kesalahpahaman dikarenakan beberapa kata dan istilah tidak ditemukan di Kamus Standar Bahasa Inggris. Dan terakhir, disarankan untuk menonton film yang bertemakan militer dengan tujuan mengetahui bahasa militer secara lebih luas, karena istilah dan kata bahasa militer berbeda dengan istilah dan kata bahasa umum.
English Abstract
This thesis discusses about the general words and terms which is used in military language in movie “Shooter”. In its subtitles or movie transcripts, there are many words in general context are found on in certain scene, where the scene is taking place. To put it simply, a word in general context, when it is used by military force, it gives different meaning. As such, those English learners who do not know such language will encounter difficulty to learn them as some of them may have certain interest. Describing the militarized words and terms in precise interpretation is the main concern. Research method which is used in this thesis is qualitative research design, by analyzing the collected data (data source itself is the movie subtitles) and then giving them proper explanation or description. And then, by listing the data in the table which is specifically made to arrange the data. There are approximately 51 general words and terms are used in military context which are found on “Shooter” movie script. Certain words and terms which are used in military context need to be analyzed precisely in order to avoid confusion as some of them are not found in the Standard English dictionary. And last, it is suggested to watch other movies which have military theme in order to learn more about military language, as its terms and words are different from general ones.
