Abstract
Praanggapan merupakan suatu asumsi yang dibuat oleh penutur yang dapat diterima dengan baik oleh pendengar. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menganalisa praanggapan yang ada dalam tuturan kedua tokoh utama dalam fim The King‟s Speech, Raja George ke-6 dan Lionel Logue. Objek penelitian ini dipilih agar pembaca dapat mengetahui bahwa praanggapan bisa juga diperoleh dalam konteks komunikasi apapun termasuk di dalam bahasa lisan yang berbentuk dialog. Penelitian ini menerapkan toeri penanda praangapan dari Karttunen yang melingkupi 13 macam penanda praanggapan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan praanggapan dan juga berbagai tipenya di dalam tuturan yang dituturkan oleh kedua tokoh utama dalam film The King‟s Speech. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif karena data yang digunakan adalah data deskripsif dalam bentuk kata-kata berdasarkan pada praanggapan yang ada di dalam film ini. Penelitian in merupakan analisa data karena data yang digunakan adalah data tertulis. Sumber data dari penelitan ini adalah dialog dari dua tokoh utama dalam bentuk tuturan dalam film The King‟s Speech. Sementara itu, data dari penelitian ini adalah tuturan-tuturan dari dua tokoh utama yang mengandung praanggapan yang diusulkan oleh Karttunen (seperti yang telah disebutkan oleh Levinson, 1983). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dari data yang sudah terkoleksi, terdapat beberapa tuturan yang mengandung penanda praanggapam yang mengindikasikan adanya praanggapan. Elemen-elemen lain yang mendukung terdapatnya praanggapan antara lain adalah konteks dalam film, partisipan, dan pengetahuan bersama dari penutur dan pendengar. Dari analisa yang sudah dilakukan oleh penulis, ditemukan 9 tipe dari 13 penanda praanggapan seperti yang telah diusulkan oleh Karttunen dalam film The King‟s Speech. Tipe-tipe tersebut adalah penanda praanggapan definite description, factive verbs, implicative verbs, change of state verbs, iterative, cleft sentences, comparison and contrast, counterfactual conditionals, dan penanda praanggapan questions. Sebagai tambahan, tipe praanggapan yang paling sering digunakan dalam film ini adalah penanda praanggapan pertanyaan. Tipe ini khususnya sering digunakan oleh Lionel dikarenakan dia adalah ahli terapi berbicara Bertie sehingga Lionel cenderung menanyakan beberapa pertanyaan kepada Bertie yang berhubungan dengan kegagapanya atau bahkan masalah pribadinya untuk mendekatkan diri padanya.
English Abstract
Presupposition is an assumption by a speaker or writer about what is true or already known by the listener or reader. In this study, the writer analyzes presuppositions found in the utterances of the two main characters, King George VI and Lionel Logue in the movie entitled The King‟s Speech. This research object is chosen in order to show that presupposition can be encountered in any context of communication including spoken language in the form of dialogues. This study applies Karttunen‟s theory of presupposition triggers which covered thirteen types of presupposition triggers. The objective of this study is to find out the presupposition as well as its types in the utterances of the two main characters in the movie The King‟s Speech. Qualitative method is used in this study since the data used are descriptive data in the form of words descriptively based on presupposition found in the movie. This study is document analysis since the data are written form. The data source of this study is the dialogues by the two main characters in the form of utterances in The King‟s Speech movie. While the data of this study are the utterances by the two main characters containing presupposition as proposed by Karttunen (as cited in Levinson, 1983). The result of this study shows that in the collected data, there are many utterances that contain presupposition triggers which indicate that there are presuppositions. Other elements in supporting the existence of presupposition are the context of the movie, participants, and also the background knowledge of the speaker and the hearer. Presuppositions which appear in this movie give a deeper knowledge of its context and could help in understanding the story of the movie itself. From the analysis which has been conducted by the writer, it is found that there are nine out of thirteen types of presupposition triggers as proposed by Karttunen in The King‟s Speech movie. Those types are definite description, factive verbs, implicative verbs, change of state verbs, iterative, cleft sentences, comparison and contrast, counterfactual conditionals, and questions presupposition trigger. In addition, the most frequently used type in this movie is question presupposition trigger. It was often used especially by Lionel since he was Bertie‟s speech therapist so that he tended to ask some questions to Bertie regarding about the stammer or even about Bertie‟s personal matters in order to get closer to him.
