Abstract
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif karena berkaitan dengan deskripsi kata-kata tabu yang diungkapkan oleh karakter utama, kategorisasi kata-kata tabu dan konteks di mana kata-kata tabu diungkapkan. karena dalam mendapatkan data dari kata tabu itu difokuskan pada analisis percakapan atau dialog dari karakter dalam film. Pengumpulan data dengan menonton film Hustle and Flow. Untuk memperoleh data yang valid, penulis menganalisis data melalui browsing naskah, memeriksa naskah dengan menonton film untuk mencocokkan, dan memilih ucapan Djay yang berisi kata tabu, membuat daftar ucapan yang mengandung kata tabu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kata-kata tabu yang di uckapkan dalam film diklasifikasikan ke dalam beberapa kategori seperti: excretion, ex/copulative term, one’s mother in law, bodily function, certain game/animal, and death. Dan Semua kata-kata tabu yang diungkapkan dalam banyak konteks, seperti di mobil, rumah, dan restoran. Sedangkan kata-kata tabu yang paling banyak diucapkan oleh karakter untuk mengekspresikan emosi, kemarahan, memberi saran dan menyindir. Akhirnya, peneliti menyarankan kepada peneliti selanjutnya untuk menganalisis topik yang sama dan lebih dapat mengembangkan penelitian ini dengan menganalisis dari sudut pandang lain karena masih ada kategorisasi yang belum dianalisis yaitu religious matter dan the left hand.
English Abstract
This research is a sociolinguistics study focusing on analyzing the conversation of the main character in the “Hustle and Flow” movie, by using Wardhaugh’s and Hyme’s theories. The writer is interested in analyzing taboo expression expressed by the main character in Hustle and Flow Movie. This study attempted to answer the following research questions: (1) What are taboo expressions used by the main character? (2) What are the categorizations of taboo expressions? and (3) What are the contexts of taboo expressions used by the main character in the movie “Hustle and Flow”? This study is a descriptive qualitative research as it concerns with the description of taboo expression expressed by the main character of “Hustle and Flow” movie, the categorization of taboo, and the context in which the taboo are expressed.. In order to obtain the valid data, the writer collected the data by browsing the script of the Hustle and Flow movie, checking the script by watching the movie to make it clear and valid before being analyzed, selecting the main character utterances which contain taboo expression, and making a list of the utterances containing taboo expressions. The result of the study showed that the taboo expressions found in the film are classified into taboo excretion, sex/copulative term, one’s mother in law, bodily function, certain game/animal, and death. All these taboo expressions were expressed in many contexts. The settings are in the car, house, and restaurant. The participants are Djay, Key, Shelby, Arnel, Shug and Nola. The keys are to express emotion, to express anger, to give advice and to tease. While the norms are friend norm, family norm and general norm. Finally, the researcher suggests other future researchers who are interested in analyzing the similar topic be able to develop a study by analyzing taboo expressions from another point of view because there are still many categorizations that have not been analyzed yet, such as religious matter and the left hand.
