Abstract
Tuhan menciptakan manusia dengan aspek biologi sebagai pondasi seseorang selain kepribadian, karakter, dan sebagainnya, dan aspek biologi itu sendiri bukanlah faktor satu-satunya yang membentuk karakter seseorang. Terdapat dua faktor dalam pembentukan karakter seseorang, dan aspek ini terbagi mejadi dua hal, faktor internal dan eksternal. Setiap orang memiliki kepribadian dan karakter yang berbeda-beda, dan mereka juga memiliki sisi buruk dan baik pada diri mereka sendiri, yang mana sisi yang akan menonjol berdasarkan keinginan mereka sendiri. The Picture of Dorian Gray adalah sebuah novel dengan tema yang jarang ada yakni supranatural. Melalui tema ini sangat di tunjukan bagaimana seorang pria yang memiliki wajah yang tampan dan hati yang baik berubah menjadi seseorang yang sangat jahat dan egois. Dorian Gray adalah seseorang yang polos, sampai pada suatu hari dia berteu dengan Lord Henry yang membuatnya berfikir bahwa ketampana adalah segalanya. Penulis menggunakan pendekatan psikologis untuk menganalisa penyebab dari perubahan yang terjadi pada Dorian Gray, dan teori itu sendiri fokus pada Narcissistic Personality Diorder Pada akhirnya, Narcissistic Personality Disorder menjadi teori yang sempurna dalam menganalisis perubahan Dorian Gray melalui perilakunya. Penulis tesis menemukan bahwa perubahan Dorian Gray menjadi seseorang yang egois dan tamak dikarenakan oleh Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
English Abstract
God creates human with the biological aspect as the foundation that build someone from the body, personality, character, etc. The biological aspect itself is not the only factor that build some one’s character. There are some key factors, which provoke particular changes in human character, and these factors can be divided into two groups, internal and external. Everyone has different personality and character. People have bad side and good side inside them, in which the strongest side will be seen clearly as they wants. The Picture of Dorian Gray is a novel with uncommon theme. Yet the real theme which is going to be analyzed deals with the change of Dorian’s character, a handsome young man, from innocent nature into an evily selfish person. Dorian Gray was a pure man until his meeting with Lord Henry brought him to realize that beauty is everything. The writer uses psychologycal approach to analyze possible cause of Dorian’s changes, and the psychological theory in this thesis is Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Later on Narcissistic Personality Disorder proves to be a complete and scientific theory to be used to analyze Dorian’s changes towards his attitudes. The thesis writer finds out that Dorian’s attitude after the change such as his selfishness and show-off are actually caused by Narcissistic Personality Disorder
