Abstract
Dalam penelitian ini, penulis memiliki tujuan untuk menemukan perubahan yang dialami oleh tokoh utama, John Beckwith di film Wedding Crasher . Penulis menggunakan definisi cinta dari Erich Fromm untuk menganalisis data. Penelitian ini terdiri dari empat bab; Pendahuluan, Metode Penelitian, Temuan dan Diskusi, dan Kesimpulan dan Saran. Dalam bab temuan, penulis menemukan dua hal yang berhubungan dengan perubahan John. Perubahan pertama adalah tentang preferensi cinta dari John. John pada awalnya berpikir bahwa Brotherly Love lebih penting daripada Erotic Love. Setelah John mengenal Claire, dia fokus kepada Claire dan dia mengabaikan sahabatnya, Jeremy. Poin kedua adalah tentang sikap John. John pada awalnya hanya ingin bersenang-senang dengan wanita. Kebersamaan antara John dengan wanita yang dia temui di pernikahan adalah tanpa cinta. Namun, setelah dia mengenal Claire, John menjadi serius untuk mendapatkan Claire. John memberikan apa yang dia miliki untuk Claire. Dia mencintai Claire. Perubahan itu sendiri berhubungan dengan perhatian John tentang cinta; dari Brotherly Love ke Erotic Love. Hal tersebut merupakan proses yang dialami oleh John dan mempengaruhi perubahan dalam sifat dan perilakunya.
English Abstract
In this study, the writer has the aim to find the changes experienced by the main character, John Beckwith in the movie Wedding Crasher. The writer uses Erich Fromm’s definition of love to analyze the data. This study consists of four chapters; Introduction, Research Method, Finding and Discussion, and Conclusion and Suggestion. In the finding, the writer found two points related to John’s change. First change is on John’s preference of love. John at first thought that brotherly love is more important than erotic love. However, after John knew Claire, he focused to Claire and he ignored his best friend, Jeremy. Second point is on John’s attitude. John at first only wanted to have fun with women. The togetherness between John and the women at wedding is loveless. However, after he knew Claire, he became serious to get Claire. He gave what he has for Claire, because he loves Claire. The change itself is related to John’s concern in love; from Brotherly Love to Erotic Love. This is part of the process experienced by John which affects the change in his character.
