Abstract
Fiksi Ilmiah adalah genre film dengan penuh spekulatif, berdasarkan ilmu yang belum tentu bisa diterima oleh ilmu pengetahuan dan sering diikuti oleh unsur-unsur futuristik seperti pesawat ruang angkasa, robot, cyborg dan perjalanan ruang angkasa antar bintang. Sebagian besar karakter cyborg dalam karya fiksi ilmiah adalah laki-laki yang menjadi pahlawan dengan sebuah teknologi yang menempel di tubuhya. Dalam Resident Evil: Extinction, karakter cyborg yang menjadi pahlawan adalah karakter perempuan dan tidak ada teknologi yang menyatu di tubuhnya. Penggambaran cyborg dalam Resident Evil: Extinction tercermin dari penggambaran Alice, karakter protagonis digambarkan oleh Milla Jovovich. Skripsi ini meneliti penggambaran karakter cyborg di Resident Evil: Extinction melalui karakter Alice. Menggunakan teori dari Donna Haraway, studi ini berfokus pada empat variabel yang menggambarkan cyborg (a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of lived social reality, and a creature of fiction) dan tiga batas-batas yang membangun sebuah cyborg (animal-human, organism-machine, and physical-non physical). Alice adalah cybernetic organisme yang telah dihidupkan kembali dari kematian. Dia juga memiliki banyak klon yang juga termasuk dalam jenis cybernetic organisme. Mereka tidak lahir secara normal seperti manusia, tetapi mereka dibuat oleh teknologi atau juga kloning. Alice tidak hanya cyborg yang hybrid of machine and organism, ia juga genetik cyborg yang dibangun oleh metamorfosis virus. Alice sebagai manusia yang mempunyai kepribadian dan juga organisme sosial. Sepertinya pendapat Haraway bahwa cyborg adalah organisme alam dan budaya yang menangis, merasa kesepian, merasa bersalah, dan takut seperti manusia biasa. Namun, Alice hanya makhluk fiksi, dia belum menjadi cyborg di kenyataan. Alice adalah bentuk cyborg baru dari Fiksi Ilmiah. Alice adalah cyborg yang memiliki penampilan dan bentuk fisik dan mental sebagai manusia sempurna. Dan perbedaan lainnya, dia juga memiliki kekuatan mental yang luar biasa seperti telekinensis. Dia juga genetik cyborg yang dibangun oleh metamorfosis virus yang bisa menyembuhkan dirinya sendiri. Penulis menyarankan kepada penulis berikutnya dalam menganalisisa Resident Evil menggunakan teori semiotik oleh Jean Baudrillard. Bahwa media massa atau film adalah tanda yang akan menjadi kenyataan di kehidupan nyata. Penulis menyarankan bahwa untuk menganalisis dampak teknologi pada kehidupan masa depan, sifat sosial dan budaya.
English Abstract
Science fiction movie is a genre movie full of speculative, based on science that is not necessarily accepted by mainstream science and often followed by futuristic elements such as spacecraft, robots, cyborgs and interstellar space travel. Most of the cyborg characters in science fiction works are males that become heroes and with a technology that stuck in his body. In Resident Evil: Extinction, the cyborg character is heroine and there is no appearance of technology in the body. The cyborgs in the Extinction story are reflected by the portrayals of Alice, protagonist character portrayed by Milla Jovovich. This thesis studied the portrayal of cyborg character in Resident Evil: Extinction through the character of Alice. Using the theory of Donna Haraway, this study focuses on four variables that describe the cyborg (a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality lived, and a creature of fiction) and three boundaries to build a cyborg (animal-human, organism-machine, and physical non-physical). Alice is a cybernetic organism that has been revived from the death. She also has many clones that are kinds of cybernetic organism. They are not made by normal born as like as human being, but they are made by body plasticity or cloning. Alice is not only a hybrid machine cyborg, she also a genetic cyborg that is constructed by viral metamorphosis. Alice as human being is a personal and also a social organism. It seems like what Haraway opinion that cyborg is both natural and cultural organism who who is able to cry, feel lonely, guilty, and afraid like ordinary human being. However, Alice is only a creature of fiction; she is not a real cyborg. Alice is a new cyborg form of science fiction. Alice is a cyborg who physically and mentally as perfect human being. And the other differences, she has the incredible telekinesis mental power. Alice is a genetic cyborg which has metamorphosis of viruses that can heal herself. The writer suggests the next researchers analyze Resident Evil the movie using Jean Baudrillard‘s semiotics. Baudrillard said that mass media or film would become the reality. The writer suggests that they analyze the impact of technology on future life.
