Abstract
Gaya hidup hedonistik adalah gaya hidup yang banyak dipilih oleh orang modern saat ini. Tujuannya, membuat orang-orang mencari kesenangan dan juga kebahagiaan walaupun terkadang melampaui batas dan melanggar norma yang ada. Ini semua tercermin dalam serial Gossip Girl seri kedua dimana gaya hidup hedonistik tercermin di dalam kehidupan para tokoh dan bagaimana akibat dari gaya hidup seperti itu mempengaruhi orang-orang di sekitar mereka. Penulis menggunakan teori sosiologi sebagai teori utama untuk menganalisa karena tema utama dari serial ini berkaitan dengan aspek sosiologi seperti pembagian lapisan sosial berdasarkan status ekonomi. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa gaya hidup hedonistik tercermin dalam tokoh utama serial ini, yaitu Blair Waldrof, Serena Van Der Woodsen, Nate Archibald, dan Chuck Bass. Mereka adalah contoh dimana gaya hidup hedonistik adalah sebuah kebiasaan yang dilakukan semenjak mereka kecil. Mereka akan melakukan apa saja untuk mendapatkan apa yang mereka mau dan mereka tidak mau merasakan perasaan terluka. Bagi mereka yang terpenting adalah kesenangan dan kebahagiaan. Semua itu membuat mereka menjadi egois dan tidak peduli pada orang lain. Tingkah laku yang seperti itu membawa beberapa akibat seperti membagi orang dalam beberapa kelompok berdasarkan standar yang mereka tetapkan. Didalam sosiologi, itu disebut pembentukan orang dalam dan orang luar. Orang dalam terbagi menjadi dua yaitu, kelompok primer dan kelompok sekunder. Setap tokoh utama diserial ini masuk kedalam kelompok primer karena mereka berbagi kedekatan secara personal, sedangkan pengikut mereka masuk ke dalam kelompok sekunder, dimana mereka hanya berbagi misi yang sama. Orang luar adalah orang-orang yang tidak termasuk dalam kelompok mereka karena orang-orang tersebut tidak memenuhi persyaratan yang ada dalam standar mereka. Akibat yang terakhir adalah pembentukan kepercayaan diri seseorang. Tokoh yang dianalisis dalam hal ini adalah Nate Archibald yang mengalami kebangkrutan. Ia memutuskan menyembunyikan keadaannya dan berpura-pura semua baik-baik saja.Ia melakukannya karena tidak mau kehilangan kehormatan dan kebanggannya. Kesimpulan yang dapat ditarik adalah gaya hidup hedonistik sangat tercermin pada setiap tokoh di Gossip Girl dan gaya hidup seperti itu membawa beberapa akibat kepada diri mereka dan orang di sekitarnya. Saran yang dapat di berikan kepada peneliti selanjutnya adalah Gossip Girl juga dapat dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori psikoanalisis dan Marxism. Para peneliti lain juga dapat menggali lebih dalam untuk menemukan topik yang menarik untuk dibahas.
English Abstract
Hedonistic lifestyle is one of the lifestyle that is chosen by many modern people today. Hedonistic lifestyle aims to make people seek pleasure also happiness in ways that are sometimes beyond the expected and the existing norms. It is reflected on Gossip Girl the series on the second season in which hedonistic lifestyle becomes the main issues. Therefore, the writer is interested to analyze how hedonistic lifestyle is reflected on the characters in the series and how their hedonistic lifestyle affects the people around them. The writer uses sociological approach as the main theory since the main theme of the study is related to sociological aspect as a group’s lifestyle and the division of social layers based on economy. The analysis discovers that hedonistic lifestyle is reflected on the main characters, namely Blair Waldrof, Serena Van Der Woodsen, Nate Archibald, and Chuck Bass. They are examples where the hedonistic lifestyle has become their habit since childhood. They do everything for getting what they want and they do not want to get hurt. They just want be happy and look for pleasure. They become selfish and do not care with other people. Those attitudes bring some effects to people around them. They will divide people to some categorizes related to their standard. In sociology it is called the formation of insider and outsider. The insider is divided into two which are primer group and secondary group. Each main character belongs to primer group of insider because they share the same personal attachment, while their followers are called secondary group in which they just share the same mission. Outsider is people who not included in their little group because those people can not fulfill their standards. The last effect of hedonistic lifestyle is the establishment of one’s self esteem. The character to be analyze are related to the case is Nate Archibald, who experience bankruptcy. He decides to hide his situation and pretends everything is fine. He does that because he does not want to loose his dignity and pride, and he wants people think he is still the same. The conclusion are hedonistic lifestyle is really reflected on each main characters on Gossip Girl the series and it brings some effects to their selves also to people around them. The suggestion for the future research, Gossip Girl also could be analyzed with different theories like psychoanalysis and Marxism. The future researcher could dig deeper to find some interesting problem in this series.
