Abstract
Pekerjaan penerjemahan berkaitan dengan dua bahasa yang berbeda dalam hal struktur dan budaya. Perbedaan seringkali membawa kesulitan bagi penerjemah dan mempengaruhi cara dia menerjemahkan teks tertentu, termasuk dalam menerjemahkan kalimat yang kompleks. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti ingin mengetahui teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan kalimat kompleks dalam cerpen “Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of Sussex Vampire”. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan analisis dokumen cerita pendek versi novel Inggris dan Indonesia. Dalam analisis data, hasil teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan penerjemah dikategorikan menjadi dua, berdasarkan apakah teks sasaran mengandung pesan yang sama dengan teks sumber atau tidak. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa hanya ada beberapa teknik yang telah diterapkan dalam menerjemahkan kalimat kompleks. Teknik amplifikasi, reduksi, transposisi, dan adaptasi diterapkan masing-masing dalam 20, 10, 7 dan 6 kalimat. Selain itu, dari 28 karya terjemahan, 3 teks target tidak mengandung pesan yang sama dengan teks aslinya sedangkan data lainnya, 25 kalimat, penerjemah berhasil mentransfer pesan teks asli ke dalam terjemahan. Ringkasnya, dari 7 teknik yang dikemukakan oleh Molina & Albir, hanya ada 4 teknik penerjemahan yang telah digunakan oleh penerjemah dan 3 dari 28 kalimat gagal memiliki pesan yang sama dengan teks aslinya. Kesimpulannya, data yang diambil dari cerita pendek berjudul “Sherlock Holmes: Petualangan Vampir Sussex” karya Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, dan terjemahannya oleh Daisy Dianasari cenderung berhasil diterjemahkan.
English Abstract
Translation work deals with two languages which are different in terms of structure and culture. The differences often bring difficulties to the translator and affect the way he or she translates a given text, including in translating complex sentences. In this study, the researcher wants to find out the translation techniques used by the translator in translating complex sentences in the short story “ Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of Sussex Vampire ” . This study is qualitative with document analysis of the English and Indonesian novel version of the short story. In data analysis, the result of translation techniques used by the translator are categorized into two, based on whether the target text contains the same message as the source text or not. This study reveals that there are only several techniques that have been applied in translating the complex sentences. The amplification, reduction, transposition, and adaptation techniques are applied in 20, 10, 7 and 6 sentences, respectively. Moreover, from 28 translation works, 3 of the target texts do not contain the same message as the original texts while the rest of data, 25 sentences, the translator successfully transfers the original text message into the translation. In summary, from the 7 techniques proposed by Molina & Albir, there are only 4 translation techniques that have been used by the translator and 3 of 28 sentences failed to have the same messages as the original texts. In conclusion, the data which are taken from the short story entitled “ Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of Sussex Vampire” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and its translation by Daisy Dianasari tend to be translated successfully.
