Abstract
Dalam dunia kerja, manusia harus memiliki motivasi sebagai semangat untuk mendukung pekerjaan mereka untuk meraih impian atau mencapai posisi tertinggi dalam karir. Sebagai manusia biasa yang selalu termotivasi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan mereka, manusia selalu menghadapi masalah yang berkaitan dengan motivasi diri. Ada sebuah film yang berjudul Devil Wears Prada. Film ini menceritakan hidup seorang gadis biasa yang berusaha untuk meraih impiannya untuk bekerja ditempat yang dia impikan. Dia diterima di RunWay, sebuah majalah fashion terkenal di NewYork dan dia harus berjuang untuk diterima di RunWay karena para pekerja di RunWay itu memandang dia sebelah mata karena penampilan buruknya tanpa melihat kemampuannya. Selanjutnya skripsi ini menganalisis tentang bagaimana seorang gadis biasa dengan sukses mengaktualisasi diri untuk meraih impiannya tergambar dalam film ini. Penulis menggunakan teori motivasi manusia dari teori kebutuhan hirarki dari Abraham Maslow. Kebutuhan hirarki ditujukan untuk menganalisis seorang gadis biasa bernama Andrea Sachs sebagai karakter utama dalam film ini yang melakukan perubahan untuk diterima di RunWay. Ini berkaitan dengan keinginan dari karakter utama untuk mememenuhi kebutuhan dasarnya untuk mengaktualisasi diri untuk meraih apa yang dia impikan di akhir film. Akhir dari analisis, menunjukkan bahwa seorang gadis biasa masih mempunyai kemampuan untuk mengaktualisasi diri selama mempunyai keinginan kuat untuk memotivasi diri. Keinginan motivasi diri memberikan efek positif dalam kehidupan Andrea Sachs sehingga dia mampu bertahan di RunWay dan sukses menghadapi pandangan sebelah mata dari para pekerja RunWay juga tekanan dari Miranda Priestley editornya. Sampai akhirnya mampu mengaktualisasi diri menjadi dirinya sendiri dan dihargai orang-orang disekitarnya. Pencapaian aktualisasi dalam kasus ini adalah Andrea sachs menjadi dirinya sendiri dan mengikuti kata hatinya untuk meninggalkan RunWay karena itu dia menjadi nyaman dan bahagia bagi dirinya Penulis menyarankan agar peniliti selanjutnya dapat menganalisis aspek lainnya dalam film Devil Wears Prada. Selanjutnya, peneliti lainnya diharapkan tetap menggunakan pendekatan aktualisasi diri namun mereka dapat menggunakan objek yang berbeda dengan membandingkan kebutuhan aktualisasi diri antara dua karakter wanita utama.
English Abstract
In a work field, people must have motivation as the spirits to support them while working to reach their goal or the highest position in their career. As a human being that is always motivated to fulfill their needs, people often face problems related to human motivation. There is a film entitled The Devil Wears Prada. This film portrays an ordinary life of a girl who tries to reach her dream to work in a place she dream of. She is accepted in RunWay, a famous fashion magazine in NewYork, yet she has to survive to be accepted in there because the RunWay people underestimate her because of her bad appearance despite her ability. Therefore, this study analyzes about how an ordinary girl successfully actualizes herself to reach her dream which is reflected in the movie. The writer uses human motivation theory consists of Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need’s theory. Hierarchy of needs in this case is closely related to an ordinary girl namely Andrea Sachs as the main character of this movie who does the transformation to be accepted in RunWay magazine. This study refers to the tendency of the main character to fulfill of her basic needs to be a self actualized person to be just the way she is for reaching her dream in the end of the movie. In the end of the analysis, it can be concluded that an ordinary girl is still able to actualize herself as long as she has a big passion or motivation. It gives a good effect to Andrea Sachs’s life so that she is able to survive in RunWay and faces the underestimating look from RunWay people, pressure from her Editor in Chief of RunWay, Miranda Priestley successfully, and also becomes self actualized. As the result of her effort to actualize herself by being just the way she is, she deserves for respect from her society and gains self actualization. In this case, Andrea Sachs becomes herself and follows her heart to leave RunWay so that she has peace and happiness in her life also to reach her dream. Furthermore, the writer suggests that next researchers analyze other aspects that arise in Devil Wears Prada Movie. Next, others researchers may keep using self actualization approach but they can have different object by comparing the needs of self actualization between two female main characters.
