Abstract
Karakter merupakan salah satu aspek terpenting dalam karya sastra. Ini adalah sumber dari semua perhatian di mana karakter membawa cerita yang disajikan dalam karya sastra. Karakter adalah apa yang penulis gunakan untuk menyampaikan pesan atau cerita itu sendiri melalui tindakan, dialog, dan karakter mereka sendiri. Tindakan karakter sangat erat kaitannya dengan faktor-faktor yang mendorong karakter tersebut melakukan tindakan tertentu. Dalam Psikoanalisis Freudian, dorongan tindakan atau perilaku manusia dimanifestasikan oleh tiga bagian jiwa manusia; id, ego, dan super ego. Into the Wild adalah film yang diangkat dari kisah nyata Christopher Johnson McCandless. Christopher McCandless adalah karakter unik yang memiliki cara berpikir yang sangat berbeda. Chris cenderung lebih keras daripada yang mungkin dipikirkan seseorang. Dia mulai menyangkal konstruksi sosial dan memutuskan untuk meninggalkan masyarakat dan memulai petualangannya di mana tujuannya adalah Alaska. Motif utama Chris adalah hidup di alam bebas dengan bentuk kehidupan yang paling primitif, namun seiring dengan perubahan waktu dan kondisi, perilaku juga berubah untuk menghadapi situasi tertentu. Psikoanalisis Freudian adalah teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisis perkembangan karakter Christopher McCandless. Dengan menggunakan psikoanalisis Freudian penelitian ini mencoba menjelaskan bagaimana dorongan id, ego, dan super ego dalam petualangannya. Penelitian ini menganalisis dorongan id, ego, dan super ego dari setiap kasus yang terjadi dalam film yang diurutkan berdasarkan timeline. Penelitian ini kemudian menghasilkan (1) dorongan id tampaknya menjadi penggerak yang dominan dari tindakannya dan cenderung berkembang menjadi keinginan yang lebih besar setelah kasus sebelumnya selesai. (2) Id terus berkembang dan berubah dalam setiap kasus dan ego akan mencoba mencari pilihan untuk menjawab panggilan id dan ketika ego tidak dapat mengatasi keinginan mekanisme pertahanan bekerja untuk mengatasi keinginan. (3) Pekerjaan super ego tampaknya menjadi pengaruh kecil; tidak ada pengaruh hati nurani sedangkan bagian dari super ego yang bekerja padanya adalah ego ideal. (4) Ada dua macam keinginan yang muncul dalam karakter, yaitu keinginan atau kepura-puraan dan kebutuhan.
English Abstract
Character is one of the most important aspects in literary works. It is the source of all the attention where the character brings the story presented in literary works. Characters are what the author used to convey the message or the story itself by their action, dialog, and their character itself. Character action is closely related to the factors that drive the character to do certain action. In Freudian Psychoanalysis, the drive of human action or behavior is manifested by three parts of human psyche; id, ego, and super ego. Into the Wild is a movie based on the real story of Christopher Johnson McCandless. Christopher McCandless is a unique character which has a very different way of thinking. Chris tends to be more rigorous than a person might think. He starts to deny the social construction and decides to leaves the society and begins his adventure where the goal is Alaska. Chris’ great motive is to live in the wild with the most primitive form of life, but by the time and condition changes, the behavior also changes to cope with the certain situation. Freudian psychoanalysis is the theory used to analyze the character development of Christopher McCandless. Using Freudian psychoanalysis the study tries to explain how the drive of id, ego, and super ego in his adventure. This study analyze the drive of id, ego, and super ego of each case happens in the movie ordered based on the timeline. This research later result (1) the drive of id seems to be a dominant drive of his action and it tends to develop in to bigger desire after the previous case is finished. (2) Id continuously develops and changes in every case and ego will try to find option to answer the call of id and when the ego cannot cope with the desire defense mechanism works to cope with the desire. (3) The work of super ego seems to be a minor influence; there is no influence of conscience while the part of super ego that works on him is the ego ideal. (4) There are two kinds of desire occurred in the character, the willing or pretension and the needs.
