EndangSulastri (2010) Javanese Terms of Address : A Case Study in Manggung Village – Solo. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
Di Indonesia banyak sekali bahasa daerah, salah satunya bahasa Jawa. Bahasa Jawa merupakan bahasa ibu masyarakat Jawa, khususnya yang tinggal di Jawa Tengah dan Jawa Timur. Bahasa Jawa terbagi menjadi tiga tingkatan yaitu Ngoko, Krama, dan Krama Inggil. Sebagai dampaknya dalam bahasa Jawa terdapat berbagai istilah sapaan. Penelitian ini mencoba menjawab permasalahan penelitian, yaitu sebagai berikut (1) Apa istilah sapaan Jawa yang digunakan oleh penduduk desa Manggung – Solo?, (2) sejauh mana istilah sapaan tersebut mengungkapkan status sosial mereka (pendidikan dan pekerjaan)?, (3) Apa saja jenis kesantunan yang digunakan untuk membedakan makna bentuk sapaan?. Untuk mendeskripsikan fenomena tersebut penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Selanjutnya, jenis penelitian ini adalah studi kasus di mana penulis mempertimbangkan untuk melakukan penyelidikan tentang penggunaan istilah sapaan baik dalam bentuk Ngoko, Madya, dan Krama. Penelitian ini mengungkap tiga istilah sapaan di desa Manggung. Yaitu “kata ganti orang kedua” seperti kowe dan panjenengan, “kekerabatan” seperti bapak, ibu, dan “gelar dan pangkat” seperti pak lurah, bu lurah. Pemilihan penggunaan istilah sapaan di desa Manggung tergantung pada status sosial (pekerjaan dan pendidikan), usia, situasi, dan hubungan antara si pembicara dan si penerima. , kesantunan positif dan kesantunan negatif.. Kesimpulannya ada tiga istilah sapaan yang digunakan oleh masyarakat desa Manggung. Yaitu “kata ganti orang kedua”, “kekerabatan”, dan “gelar dan pangkat”. Penulis menyarankan kepada mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk lain dari istilah sapaan yang belum disebutkan dalam penelitian ini. Penulis juga menyarankan kepada peneliti selanjutnya untuk menemukan istilah sapaan unik lainnya di berbagai daerah seperti Sunda, Tegal.
English Abstract
In Indonesia there are a lot of vernaculars, one of them is Javanese. Javanese language is the mother tongue of the Javanese people, especially those who live in the Central Java and East Java. Javanese language is divided into three levels namely Ngoko, Krama, and Krama Inggil. As the impact in Javanese there are various terms of address. This study attempts to answer problems of the study, those are as follows (1) What are Javanese terms of address used by the inhabitants of Manggung village – Solo?, (2) to what extent those terms of address reveal their social status (education and occupation)?, (3) What are the types of politeness used to distinguish the meaning of forms of address?. To describe this phenomena this study uses qualitative approach. Furthermore, the type of this study is a case study in which the writer considers making investigation about the usage terms of address whether in the form Ngoko, Madya, and Krama. This study reveals three terms of address in Manggung village. Those are “second personal pronouns” such as kowe and panjenengan, “kinship” such as bapak, ibu, and “title and rank” such as pak lurah, bu lurah. The choice of usage of terms of address in Manggung village depends on social status (occupation and education), age, situation, and the relationship between the addresser and addressee Then, there are two types of politeness used to distinguish the meaning of terms of address, positive politeness and negative politeness.. In conclusion there are three terms of address used by the people of Manggung village. Those are “second personal pronouns”, “kinship”, and “title and rank”. The writer suggests to the students of English Study Program students to analyze other forms of address terms which have not been mentioned in this research yet. The writer also suggests to the future researcher in finding other unique terms of address in different areas such as sundanese, Tegal.
