Abstract

Menulis adalah salah satu kemampuan berbahasa yang wajib dipelajari. Hal ini dikarenakan seseorang mampu menyampaikan informasi secara tertulis yaitu melalui menulis. Menulis perlu diajarkan kepada siswa di sekolah. Siswa harus mempunyai motivasi yang tinggi dalam menulis agar dapat menyampaikan pesan tertulis secara tepat. Namun, banyak siswa di Indonesia mempunyai motivasi rendah dalam belajar menulis bahasa asing terutama bahasa Inggris yang berdampak pada tingkat kemampuan mereka dalam menulis berbahasa Inggris. Hal ini yang dialami oleh siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 19 Surabaya. Berdasarkan pengalaman peneliti saat mengikuti kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN), masalah yang dialami diantaranya rendahnya motivasi para siswa dipengaruhi oleh gaya mengajar guru yang kaku dan kurangnya penggunaan media belajar. Berdasarkan masalah tersebut, diperlukan pengembangan media yang mampu meningkatkan motivasi siswa dan dapat memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan menulis berbahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan WPAP untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam menulis berbahasa Inggris. Peneliti menggunakan model ADDIE. Model ini terdiri dari 5 tahap; analysis, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner dan lembar validasi. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis secara kualitatif. Produk divalidasi oleh ahli media, ahli isi, dan guru kelas. Kemudian produk telah diuji coba kepada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 19 Surabaya. Validasi ahli dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah media dan isinya sesuai dengan karakteristik dan kebutuhan siswa atau tidak. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dari para ahli dan siswa, data menunjukkan bahwa produk yang dikembangkan valid. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa produk dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam belajar membaca teks bahasa Inggris khususnya teks biografi. Peneliti menyarankan produk WPAP bisa dikembangkan dengan desain yang lebih menarik serta menjadi inspirasi bagi guru untuk menciptakan media pembelajaran yang kreatif sehingga mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris.

English Abstract

Writing is the most important language skill to be learnt. It makes someone able to deliver written information properly in languages, especially English. Writing needs to be taught to students at schools. Students must have high motivation in writing so that they could deliver written information appropriately. However, many students in Indonesia are less motivated to learn writing in English which affects to their writing skill. The researcher found the problem of students' writing while having Community Service Program (KKN) of the eleventh graders at SMA Negeri 19 Surabaya. The problems were caused by the teacher's teaching style and lack of using learning media. Based on the problems above, the researcher developed a teaching media that could increase students' motivation and give positive influence in English writing skill. This research was aimed to develop WPAP to improve students' motivation in English learning activity. The researcher used ADDIE model. The model consists of five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research instruments used were questionnaire and validation sheet. The research data were analyzed qualitatively. The product was validated by the media expert, content expert, and class teacher. The product have been tested to the eleventh graders of SMA Negeri 19 Surabaya. The experts validated the media, either the media and its content were suitable with the needs and the characteristics of the student. Based on the result of data analysis, the data showed that the product was valid. The product was interesting for the students, easy to apply and helpful for them to learn on biography text. It could be concluded that the media can be used to increase and improve students’ motivation in writing skill on biography text. It is suggested that WPAP could be developed in more interesting design and becomes inspiration for the teachers to create creative learning media to increase the skills in English.
