English Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding brown seaweed extract to drinking water and transportation duration on carcass quality of broiler chickens. This study used Indian River strain broilers, aged 11 days, totaling 92 birds. The research method was a completely randomized design (CRD) in a 3 x 2 factorial pattern with 4 replications. The variables observed included body weight loss, slaughter weight, carcass percentage and abdominal fat percentage. The results of the study showed that the addition of brown seaweed extract in drinking water had no significant effect (P>0.05) on body weight loss, slaughter weight, carcass percentage, and abdominal fat percentage. The transportation duration of 180 minutes increased (P<0.05) body weight loss, reduced (P<0.05) slaughter weight and abdominal fat percentage, without having a negative effect on broiler carcass percentage. There was no interaction (P>0.05) between the addition of brown seaweed extract in drinking water and the duration of transportation on broiler carcass quality. It could be concluded that the transportation duration of 180 minutes increased body weight loss, decreased slaughter weight and abdominal fat percentage, without having a negative effect on broiler carcass percentage. The addition of brown seaweed extract in drinking water had no effect on carcass quality. There was no interaction between the addition of brown seaweed extract in drinking water and the duration of transportation on carcass quality.
