Abstract

Hallyu adalah soft power dari Korea Selatan yang digunakan sebagai alat diplomasi publik oleh negara tersebut untuk meningkatkan citra mereka. Perkembangan hallyu dimulai di Benua Asia dan berkembang ke luar Asia, terutama Amerika Serikat. Penelitian ini menjawab pertanyaan "Bagaimana hallyu digunakan sebagai alat diplomasi publik di Amerika Serikat di tahun 2017-2020?" dengan menggunakan konsep diplomasi publik dan soft power, dengan metode penelitian deskriptif. Penulis menemukan bahwa terdapat berbagai hallyu menjadi alat diplomasi publik Korea Selatan di Amerika Serikat pada tahuun 2017-2020 dengan cara promosi dari hallyu itu sendiri, dukungan dan bantuan dari pemerintah Korea Selatan, dan juga reaksi dan antusias dari penggemar hallyu.

English Abstract

Hallyu is South Korea's soft power that being used as a public diplomacy tool by the country to promote their image. The development of hallyu started in Asia and spread outside of Asia, including the United States of America. This research answer the question of "How hallyu being used as South Korea's public diplomacy tool in the United States of America in the year of 2017-2020?" with the concept of public diplomacy and soft power, using the research method of descriptive research. The writer found that there are ways of using hallyu as the public diplomacy's tool in the United States of America in the year of 2017-2020 by the promotion of hallyu, the support and help from the South Korean government, and the reaction and enthusiasm of the hallyu fan
