Abstract

Lerak (Sapindus rarak) merupakan salah satu komoditi yang sudah mulai sulit didapatkan di Indonesia yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan alami pengganti sabun. Buah lerak mengandung beberapa senyawa diantaranya 12% saponin, 1% alkaloid, 0.036% steroid dan 0.029% triterpen. Penggunaan kembali bahan tradisional seperti lerak untuk membersihkan kain batik penting dilakukan, hal ini dikarenakan lerak merupakan bahan yang ramah lingkungan dan tidak mengandung bahan kimia yang menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan. Pengetahuan tentang karakteristik fisik dan mekanik penting untuk kebutuhan data rekayasa yang diperlukan untuk perancangan mesin, proses, struktur dan pengendaliannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui variasi kadar air terhadap sifat fisik dan mekanik lerak (Sapindus rarak) yang dilakukan pada lima variasi kadar air yaitu 11.365%, 14.678%, 18.182%, 22.869% dan 26.271%. Pada rentang kadar air tersebut dimensi panjang,lebar,tebal,diameter rata-rata (geometrik,aritmatik,kuadrat,ekuivalen) buah lerak mengalami peningkatan secara linier dengan meningkatnya kadar air yaitu sebesar 0.9%-1.3%, 0.9%-1.6%, 1.35%-1.9%, 0.09%-3.56%, 0.1%-3,57%. Sphericity buah lerak mengalami penurunan sebesar 0.05%-0.36%. Bulk density mengalami penurunan yaitu sebesar 0.1%-9.5% sedangkan true density dan porositas mengalami peningkatan sebesar 0.25%-15.92% dan 8.3%- 47.9%. coefficient of static friction mengalami peningkatan sebesar 0.01%-29.26%. Uji tekan pada posisi tegak lurus panjang mengalami peningkatan sebesar 1.5%- 27.89%,sedangkan pada posisi tegak lurus dengan lebar dan tebal mengalami penurunan sebesar 4.2%-29.7% dan 3.25%- 19.41%.

English Abstract

Lerak (Sapindus rarak) is one of the commodities that has begun to be difficult to obtain in Indonesia which can be used as a natural ingredient as soap substitutes. Lerak fruit contains several compounds including 12% saponin, 1% alkaloid, 0,036% steroid and 0,029% triterpen. Reusing traditional materials such as lerak to clean batik clothes are important, this is because lerak is an environmentally friendly material and does not contain chemicals that cause environmental pollution. Knowledge about physical and mechanical characteristics is important for the needs of engineering data that is required for the design of machines, processes, structures and controls. This study is aim to find out the effect of water content on physical and mechanical properties of lerak (Sapindus rarak) which are conducted on five variations of water content that are 11,365%, 14,678%, 18,182%, 22,869% dan 26,271%. In the range of moisture content the dimensions of length, width, thickness, mean diameter (geometric, arithmetic, square, equivalent) of lerak fruit have increased linearly with increasing moisture content from 0.9%-1.3%, 0.9%-1.6%, 1.35 % -1.9%, 0.09%- 3.56%, 0.1%-3.57%. Lerak fruit sphericity decreased from 0.05%-0.36%. Bulk density decreased from 0.1%-9.5% while true density and porosity increased from 0.25%-15.92% and 8.3%-47.9%. Coefficient of static friction increased from 0.01% - 29.26%. Compressive test in the length perpendicular position increased from 1.5% -27.89%, while in the perpendicular position with width and thickness decreased from 4.2% -29.7% and 3.25% - 19.41%
