Abstract
Material baja karbon rendah banyak digunakan pada sektor industri dan perkapalan. Baja karbon rendah ASTM-A36 banyak dipakai untuk lambung kapal karena sifatnya yang memiliki keuletan yang tinggi sehingga mudah diberikan perlakuan u-bending. Shot peening merupakan metode perlakuan permukaan dengan menembakan bola-bola baja dengan kecepatan tinggi secara terus menerus, sehingga menghasilkan deformasi platis, pengerasan regangan pada permukaan material yang akan meningkatkan sifat mekanik material. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa penggaruh waktu shot peening terhadap laju korosi dan kekasaran permukaan pada baja karbon rendah ASTM-A36. Proses shot peening pada permukaan spesimen ASTM-A36 yang sudah diberikan perlakuan u-bending kemudian ditembak menggunakan bola SS301L berdiameter 4mm dengan variasi waktu 5,10, dan 15 menit, tekanan kompressor 8 bar, diameter nozzle 5 mm, dan jarak tembak antara nozzle dengan permukaan benda uji 1 inch. Material ASTM A-36 yang diberikan perlakuan shot peening kemudian diuji nilai laju korosi dan kekerasannya. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa variasi waktu shot peening pada waktu 15 menit menghasilkan nilai laju korosi paling rendah sebesar 0,008 mmpy dan kekerasan tertinggi sebesar 195,4 VHN. Penurunan laju korosi disebabkan oleh perbaikan permukaan benda kerja yang diakibatkan berubahnya struktur mikro. Nilai kekerasan meningkat berbanding lurus dengan lamanya waktu shot peening karena efek tempa pada permukaan semakin besar.
English Abstract
Low carbon steel material is widely used in industrial and shipping sectors. The low carbon steel ASTM-A36 is widely used for ship hulls because of its high ductility properties so it is easy to give the u-bending treatment. Shot peening is a method of surface treatment by firing high-speed steel balls on a continuous basis, resulting in platis deformation, strain hardening on the surface of the material which will enhance the mechanical properties of the material. This research to analyze the peak time of shot peening against corrosion rate and surface roughness in low carbon steel ASTM-A36. The shot peening process on the surface of ASTM-A36 specimens that has been given the u-bending treatment is Then shot using SS301L ball diameter 4mm with time variation of 5.10, and 15 minutes, compressor pressure 8 bar, 5mm nozzle diameter, and the distance between the nozzle with the surface of the test object 1 inch. ASTM A-36 material given shot peening treatment then tested the value of corrosion rate and hardness. The results showed that the variation of shot peening time at 15 minutes resulted in the lowest corrosion rate rate of 0.008 mmpy and the highest hardness of 195.4 VHN. Decrease in corrosion rate is caused by the improvement of workpiece surface caused by the change of micro structure. The value of violence increases proportional to the length of shot peening time because the effect of wrought on the surface is greater.
