Abstract

Pekerja anak adalah salah satu jenis kejahatan dari perdagangan manusia yang membutuhkan usaha inisiatif dan solusi global untuk mengakhirinya. Berkaitan dengan hal ini, MTV meluncurkan EXIT: End Exploitation and Trafficking, yang menggunakan PSA selebriti (Public Service Announcement), video musik, dan konser langsung untuk mendidik kaum muda tentang realitas dari perdagangan manusia. Video musik digunakan sebagai data dalam menganalisis kekuatan media. Selanjutnya ada 2 video musik yang menggunakan pekerja anak di Asia sebagai tema yang akan dianalisis. Konsep dari Foucault tentang Power dan Fiske's Intertextuality akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menganalisa data. Data dari penelitian ini adalah video musik dari Simple Plan dan Radiohead sebagai data utama dan latar belakang, prestasi, saluran resminya di Youtube dan juga MTV EXIT Final Report September 2014 sebagai data sekunder. Data ini berupa penjelasan kualitatif dan tangkapan layar dari adegan dalam Simple Plan's This Song Saved My Life dan Radiohead's All I Need video musik. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, video musik tersebut digunakan oleh MTV EXIT sebagai media mereka untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap pekerja anak di Asia dengan memanfaatkan kekuatan yang telah mereka miliki dengan dikombinasikan dengan kekuatan video musik dan saluran media yang mereka gunakan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran. Kedua musik video mewakili isu dalam video naratif untuk menyampaikan pesannya melalui konten, mood lagu dan visualisasi. Meskipun penggambaran dari isu tersebut diwakili dalam perspektif cerita yang berbeda, representasi kedua video musik itu sama, yaitu tentang realitas pekerja anak di Asia yang menggambarkan perlakuan kasar yang mereka terima selama bekerja, kondisi kerja dan kehidupan mereka, dll.

English Abstract

Child labor is one types of human trafficking crimes that requires initiative effort and global solution for it to end. In respond to the issue, MTV launched EXIT: End Exploitation and Trafficking, which uses celebrity PSA (Public Service Announcement), music videos, and live concerts to educate youth on the realities of trafficking. Music videos are used as the data in analyzing the power of the media. Furthermore, there are 2 music videos to be analyzed which theme is child labor in Asia. Foucault’s concept of Power and Fiske’s Intertextuality are used in this research. The data of this research are music videos from Simple Plan and Radiohead as the primary data and their background, achievements, official channel on YouTube and also MTV EXIT Final Report September 2014 as the secondary data. These data is in the form of qualitative explanation and screen captures of the scenes in the Simple Plan’s This Song Saved My Life and Radiohead’s All I Need music video. Based on the result of the analysis, the music video is used by MTV EXIT as their media to raise public awareness and knowledge towards child labor in Asia by utilizing the power that they had combine with the power of music video and media channel to raise awareness against the issue. Both videos represent the issue in a narrative style to convey its message through the content, the mood of the song and the visualization. Although they represent it in a different perspective of story, the representation of both music videos was the same, about the reality of child labor in Asia which pictured the harsh treatment, working and living condition, etc.
