Abstract
Membaca adalah keterampilan untuk mengetahui makna dalam teks dan memahami gagasan, untuk memahami teks siswa perlu memiliki cukup kosakata. Dengan demikian, peneliti bertanya-tanya bahwa penguasaan kosa kata mungkin berkorelasi dengan pemahaman bacaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan kosakata dan pemahaman bacaan pada siswa kelas dua SMP Shalahuddin Malang. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 34 siswa yang diambil dari VIII D dan VIII E yang diambil dengan teknik pengambilan sampel secara sistematis. Dalam mengumpulkan data, penulis menggunakan tes yang terdiri dari 20 item tes kosakata dan 20 item tes untuk pemahaman bacaan sebagai instrumen. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, peneliti menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan metode korelasi. Tes tersebut berupa pilihan ganda terdiri dari 40 item uji. Karena penelitian ini adalah metode korelasional dan data yang diperoleh adalah data rasio, maka dihitung secara statistik dengan menggunakan Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian koefisien korelasi (ro) sebesar 0,525 nilai tvalue (to)adalah 3,49, maka dengan derajat kebebasan 32. Itu dibandingkan dengan rtabel dan ttabel pada standar 5% yang berarti 0,349 dan 2.037. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa (ro) lebih tinggi dari rtabel (0,525> 0,349) dan to lebih tinggi dari ttabel (3,49 > 2.037). Karena ro lebih tinggi dari rtabel dan to juga lebih tinggi dari ttabel; Oleh karena itu korelasinya positif dan sedang. Ini berarti hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak. Oleh karena itu, ada hubungan yang signifikan secara statistik antara penguasaan kosakata dan pemahaman bacaan. Disarankan untuk memiliki penguasaan pemahaman bacaan yang baik, siswa harus memiliki penguasaan kosa kata yang baik.
English Abstract
Reading is a skill to know the meaning in the text and grasp idea, to comprehend the text, the students need to have enough vocabulary numbers. Thus, the researcher wondered that vocabulary mastery might have correlation with reading comprehension. This research was aimed to know whether there was a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. The objective of the study is to find out how is the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension on the second year students of SMP Shalahuddin Malang in academic year 2016/2017. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP Shalahuddin Malang in academic year 2016/2017. The writer applied random sampling to determine the sample. The sample of this research was 34 students from VIII D and VIII E which were chosen via random sampling. In collecting the data, the writer used two instrument, which were a test consist of 20 questions of vocabulary test and 20 questions test for reading comprehension. To achieve this objective, the researcher used quantitative method with correlation method. The test were in the form of multiple choice consisted of 40 items test. As the study was correlational method and the data gained was ratio data, thus they were computed statistically by using Pearson Product Moment in SPSS v. 20. The result of the coefficient correlation (ro) research was 0,525 tvalue (to) was 3,49 then by degree of freedom 32. It was compared with rtable and ttable at 5% standard significance which is 0,349 and 2.037. It showed that (ro)was higher than rtable (0,525 > 0.349) and to was higher than ttable (3,49 > 2.037 ). Since ro was higher than rtable and to was also higher than ttable; therefore the correlation was positive and moderate. These mean that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, there was statistically significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. It is suggested that have a good mastery of reading comprehension, students should have a good mastery of vocabulary
